What does PageRank do for your site?

My PageRank increased by 2 points after this recent update, but I still get the same amount of traffic from Google and my site gets displayed on the same results pages and same positions according to the different keywords. This is why I am confused as to what changes when you get a higher PageRank? The only thing I can think of is that maybe my site will be crawled by Google's bot more often but I still have to see about this.

PR has nothing to do with your site traffic. I suggest not to worry 'bout this number :) Well, anyway, PR certifies your site that it gathered great amount of quality links.

Page rank acts more like a multiplier effect for high page ranks. From what I understand, if you have a say, PR 6 site, all you have to do is put a keyword on your title to rank well if competition isn't very strong. Also, rumor has it that it might actually affect adsense earnings, not sure how that works.

page rank is one of the factors (no longer so important with continuously changing algorithms) in ranking procedure...but still if u have got PR increased by 2, u can expect a lil boost in ranking and in turn in traffic...update is just finished, let Google notice u..giv them sme time to rank u:D

PR gives some kind of respectability to your sites and is a barometer of how well your site is linked with other sites on the internet.

It does not in any way influence your serps or traffic.

Honestly this is the best answer your going to get:

PR was made up by google employees as a reason to laugh at us squabbling over how important it is.

PR means absolutely nothing in rankings, traffic, or quality. I have a million and a half ways I can prove this.

Bottom line is - don't worry about PR - at all. If someone tells you differently, they don't know what their talking about, period.

The only thing higher PR will give you is the desire to have more... its like crack...
Kick the habit before its too late :D

PR will only make you unhappy in the end... concentrate on SERPS instead...

    agreed
but hey doesnt PR make your site appear on the first pages of google search ?!
    for example
    my website proxytoday.info is PR4
google this and youll see the results "proxy today"
although its just a 10 months old domain name , but good to see its in the third position

Toolbar PR does nothing for a site...unless your selling advertising to webmasters who think is does.

The misconceptions continue. I'll take Google's ©2009 statement over the continual drumbeat of "PR is useless" posters here on Digital Point. Here's what Google says, "Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results" — http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html

I'm baffled why that's so hard to understand: Higher PR —> more likely higher SERPs. You can bet your life that Google has built that into the search algorithm.

Exactly the opposite is true - the PageRank you can see lags behind the PR that Google is using as part of it's algorithm to establish position in serps.
Any benefit from a higher PR is what you've already been experiencing.

Page rank does nothing to your site. It was something stupid created by Google to make the internet even more complicated. I wish they would scrap PR once and for all....

Then you'd better do Google a favor, shoot them an email, and alert them to the fact that they are doing something stupid.

Or...just perhaps Google has their own very good reasons for their patented PageRank concept and webmasters mock or ignore it to their own hurt.

You might not notice an increase in your serps as your PR changes on the google toolbar. this is because, your site could have went from PR0 to PR2/3/4/5 any time since the last Pr update which was 1st jan and now 1st april.
The chances are, if you notice an increase in serps across all your keywords, your PR has been increased although it will not show until the next toolbar update.
PR is always updating behind the scenes, its just google only bother to tell us until every 3 months.
