The Google Trends feature charts search traffic over time by keyword. For example: http://www.google.com/trends?q=pagerank ...shows peaks in search traffic for "pagerank" Logically enough, these seem to occur in correlation with news about pagerank. So, my question is: Did DP members here see PR changes around end of April, end of July, mid Sept and mid Dec last year? If so, 1) Is Google Trends a useful early warning tool that change is in the air? 2) Given the Google Toolbar PageRank Changes about every three months are we overdue for another one?
The next one will be around end of April, although it's not an exact scinece. I don't get too hung up on page rank, just keep building links and god quality content and visitors will come
I dont think it will be end of april it might be this week. Yeah but who cares about PR. Its nothing more than a number. Traffic is what will get you the dime.
Thanks! Is this your intuition or a fact? If the latter, can you send me a reference to the schedule? Absolutely. I'm just curious about all things Google.
Thanks! Yes, but traffic comes from high placement in SERP and high placement in SERP is related to PankRank (as well as keywords and anchor text and other on-page and off-page factors)
Not quite. Google Trends is based on search traffic. I think what's going on is that webmasters notice or hear something is changing and start to search en mass on the keyword "pagerank" to find out more details.
What seems to be more interesting is the fact that "pagerank" as a search term is progressively going down over the past three years.
Update... Yup. Search traffic seemed to peak around April 3rd which when a lot of members here saw chages in SERP and PR.
