I started blogging with blogger and I got really used to it. Then I tried to use word press and I guess i was trying to look for the same features as blogger but obviously that's not the case. I just ran into problems with placing ad sense, using some plug ins like wac-o-matic, or just choosing a basic template, I went back to blogger but I know most like word press better in here, so I'm still intrigued as to why? Is it geared towards the code guru, or what? can you tell me why word press is better than blogger and basic tips on how to use it. Thank you Ruben
WP is so much more powerful and flexible. It's all about the template design and learning to use the features. Once you get over the learning curve you'll see how much more powerful WP is than Blogger. But if all you want to do is write and you are not promoting anything other than yourself and your writing them blogger is fine.
You don't have to use Word Press, just because a lot of people do. Use what is comfortable for you and what you like. People like Word Press that want to do more with their blog than other platforms will allow...some people don't need that. There is nothing wrong with using blogger if that is what you like. Hell if you like Wimbly, then use that. It's your blog.
I completely understand when you get used to something and when you try something new it may not feel right to you. I personally love wordpress, find it easy and quick to work with but if you prefer blogger then no reason not to stay with blogger.
Personally i love wordpress, the useful plugins, the ease with which i can use it, the flexibility, and all of it's other features. BUT at the end of the day something i like you may not like, so ofcourse your not crazy!! People have different tastes, opinions, part of that is what makes us all unique individuals. Tip(s) on how to use wordpress: Read up on things you are not sure of and ask if you dont know things, i have learnt many things about wordpress by reading up, coding myself (helps as i can code in php), and asking questions in digital point. I am by far not an expert in wordpress, but as always i am still learning. Best way to learn about wordpress in my opinion would be to buy a domain (if you have not got one) and create a wordpress site, and play with the features and create yourself a project where you can use the features and understand them. If you need any advice/help just ask or PM. Kind Regards mrrhk01 ~
Yea personally I love WordPress. I think I tried them all but they don't compare to Wordpress...not even close!
Thanks everyone for the helpful tips. As a matter of fact I do have a domain, and setup everything but when it came to look for a theme it's when I got frustrated, very good themes out there but if you don't know code then it's an uphill battle, I set up wac-o-matic to compliment my blog with RSS feeds but if I want to do a second campaign I couldn't find it anymore, so right know word press is in the back burner but after reading your posts I will give it another try, not my primary focus though since I have to learn a lot on it. Again thanks a lot to everyone for all the replies Ruben
The first time I used Word Press I didn't know what was going on either. It was a leaning curve because not only did I not know anything about code and function, but I had never actually looked at any...so it was all foreign to me. But I promise you, if it's really something that you would like to use, take it one step at a time, and before you know it you'll be singing right along. 75% of what I learned from Word Press in the beginning, I learned right here on this forum. You don't really need to know code to set it up, and get a few plug ins going, and then after a while, you'll start opening files and looking around to change colors and such..then you'll start getting creative with the text widgets..and one thing leads to another, you get pretty savvy with the Google searches for tutorials...next thing you know you are hacking themes to change layouts, and editing plug ins.
Wordpress is really great, but if you don't like it its your choice. Blogger is also good option and if you like it you must go with it.
You're absolutely right, I think I have found more answers in here than what I did the past three years on the web, this forum is great. Everything I've learned in the past month I'm sure it's in some ebook for some unlucky person paying $40 for it, I guess it's part of the process fall down, and learn to dust your self up and continue on. Anyway again everybody great advise and I will continue to work on word press trying to learn the ins and outs of it. Ruben
Lots of people don't like wordpress, I've seen tons of complaints about the new editor look for 2.7 as well. However, it's well worth the time to figure out. How are you trying to put adsense in? You can stick that into the template / style files easily, but not into posts without a workaround. The code gets messed up because Wordpress automatically inserts line breaks into the middle of it and some > things unless you put it all on one line.
I want to place adsense on the top, but the adsense widget only puts it on the side which doesn't look good at all. I assume you either place it on the actual post which I haven't tried yet, or tweak the theme code to place it there, so I guess it's trial and error since it depends on the theme. Adsense first issue, 99 to go :0), it's all good. Once I'm an expert on word press (hoping), I'll be able to help some lost ones like me as well. Again thanks to everyone Ruben
If you want to place the adsense on the top of your site the template file you are looking to edit is header.php
Dumb question. When you say "template file" what do you mean, where can I find this? Thanks Sgt Rivera
The template file is (im assuming) he means the theme files. A Theme is the look/design of your wordpress site. Each theme has a header.php (for the top part of a site and contains navigation), a footer.php (the footer of the site) and usually a file called index.php or single.php or page.php, more info on themes can be found at: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes You should be able to find the "template file" otherwise known as the theme file in the folder which you have installed wordpress. So if wordpress was installed in the folder wordpress. You would look in the folder: worpdress/wp-content/themes/themeName/ where themeName is the name of the current theme being used by your wordpress site. Kind Regards mrhrk01 ~
I am a big fan of Wordpress and must say its very easy to use. Adsense will work in wordpress only if it is hosted by your own hosting service. There are many plugins (Easy AdSenser) and (Simple AdSense Insert) available which helps to add Adsense to wordpress. Also, I would suggest to select theme in which Adsense could be added easily. Keep on playing with Wordpress and soon you will get comfortable with its function. Remeber most pro bloggers use wordpress for reason, because it gives blog more professional look and tons of plugins makes life easier. Good luck.
I do have my domain and hosting service. I will try those plugins, I thought it was only what was in the dashboard that you could use for adsense. I understand now there's plugins almost for everything. Thanks a lot
