Well, you have a high PR, but what is your website ranking good for? (What are your keywords?)

If you have a high ranking for the right keywords, and you still don't get traffic, it means people simply don't search using those keywords.

As you said your website has high PR and ranking is good as well and still you are not getting good traffic. The reasons could be the keywords you targeted for rankings have low search volume. You can analyze your keyword search volume through Google adword or other keyword research tool available.

Your site may be ranking only for the keywords with only 500-600 search volume per month(if u didnt change the targeted keywords naturally their populairty is decreased)
or site may not be ranking in top5 results(60 % of the searches are done in top5)
if both above are not the reasons...then just make ur meta description more interesting to attract more visitors

Sounds like you have a site with a lot of weight. You might as well put up some content related to long tail keywords and you should be able to rank in the 10 ten at Google within a day.

Are people searching for these keywords now? Probably the keyword is so specific that very few people think of using it or you have not been very careful at optimizing our content despite getting the top ranking.

I agree... However, something else that it could also be is that your pages may have crappy <meta name="description"> elements. If you are showing on page one frequently but very few people are clicking through to your site, this is frequently because of the snippet being displayed in the SERPs.

    It could be that:

    1) Maybe Google is not showing your <meta name="description"> element as the snippet, so they are constructing one from random sentence fragments from the content of the page. The one Google constructs might not be very appealing to users reducing click-thru-rate or
    2) Maybe Google IS showing your <meta name="description"> element but it is still a crappy snippet... it doesn't entice the user to click through to your site to read more reducing click-thru-rate.

What are the most likely keyword phrases that people will use to find particular pages on your site? If your site is well SEO'd it SHOULD be those keyword phrases that appear in the <title> element of the page because the <title> of each pages should 1) tell what the page is about and 2) contain the keyword phrase(s) you want that page to rank for.

So, I ALWAYS make sure that my <meta name="description"> element contains ALL of the major keywords that make up the phrases in the <title> of the page since these are most often the phrases people use to find the page.

If someone uses a search phrase to find your page in the SERPs and that page's <meta name="description"> element contains all of the keywords in the phrase they searched for then Google will typically use your <meta name="description"> element as the snippet (unless that page has a DMOZ entry in which case they will usually show the DMOZ description).

I also start my <meta name="description"> element with action verbs like "Discover...", "Learn about...", "Find out about...". "Explore...", "Purchase...", "Buy..." etc. to get them to click through to the site if they need information about the topic or if they are likely looking to buy the item they search for.

Your <meta name="description"> element can have a drastic affect on CTR if not well written.

it would be better if you prioritize first your ranking - if you got a high ranking in any of the 3 major SE's, a chance for traffic. Least prioritize the PR...

What are your target keywords? If they're not ranking, then change them. You can also boost your traffic by doing social bookmarking and networking.

There must be something wrong with your promotion :) It is possible that you are not targeting right keywords. I suggest you focus to search terms that will bring lots of traffic to your site. High ranking is useless if the keyword that rank have no searches.

wow, PR6 is hard to achieve. How old is your website anyway? if your visits drops into 500 or 600 then probably the reason why is that the internet users are not using your targeted keywords or probably you stopped optimizing your site.
