    Hello,
I am interested in starting my own blog and was wondering if any of you could help me because I have no clue where to start, as I never did this type of thing before. Any other blogging tips would be great also ;)

Thanks a lot for your help!

I would suggest going with WordPress, (you can hire me if you like to set up your blog), choose a niche which you are passionate about and can write unique content about as well(should help pull lots of unique visitors to your blog), choose a good .com domain, research other blogs in your niche and se what they are doing, ensure you are organised with everything i..e hosting details, login details, your trafic stats, your revenue stats etc..., it will pay you dividends if you are organised and aim to blog often atleast 4 times a week , possibly daily dependent on your time constraints. Also think about SEO (on page for now) and off page as well.

I think that is a long enough list lol
If you require help do ask.

Write about something you know a great deal about and/or like to do. Otherwise, blogging will become a chore and you'll lose interest quickly.

You can creat a free blog via blogger or wordpress(no domain is required), and blog about what you love. Comment on other blogs, submit to directories and do SEO. Simple enough!

I would suggest using blogger, wordpress.com but if trying to money from your blog then use wordpress.org, or you could also use weebly. Those are the 3 best and easiest places to start a blog. All are FREE to start off with but upgrades etc.... may cost.

Wordpress.org is definitely imo the most powerful but I've had some blogger blogs and they were stomping on some of the wp blogs out there and I was on front page of google easily.

Tip when choosing domain if u go that route choose 1 that has some of your main keywords in it, this will get your blog on the serps very quickly and good position.

1 other suggestion before I go, start a blog about reviews on a product or niche you are interested in. Example lets say u like laptops, start a review blog on laptops so every post use keywords and seo while writing your post and write about as many laptops you can and ALWAYS post about new laptops and new laptop products etc... use affiliate links to lead the reader to actual store to buy the laptop. boohyaaa... that easy, cj and amazon are good places to get good products for affiliates.

    cheers!

Base your blog on one topic, write the posts yourself, dont copy other peoples posts, dont look for a quick and lazy approach and learn how to promote your blog.

This can all be learned from reading posts on this very forum.

Don't copy the big blogs, you won't earn the kind of money they earn. :)

Thanks for all the help you guys! One other question though, can you earn money from a blog that you started using a free blogging service such as Weebly?

If you are going to use a free hosted blog, blogger is your best bet. Just remember, when you do that, you don't actually own the blog, they are letting you use the space...so you can't do what ever the hell you want, but blogger is the most liberal.

They let you put up adsense (since they own it), and I believe affiliate banners as well.

If that's the way you want to go, do it and get your feet wet, but if you decide that you really want to blow it out with your own customizations, different options, custom plug ins and designs...spend the $20 and get yourself a cheap hosting account and a domain and use Word press.

In the beginning for a new blogger, just start your blog in blogspot or wordpress.com which are free blog platform. Choose a topic that you can write non-stop and it's your interest, keep on updating your blog with fresh and unique content. If you would like to make money with your blog, then go for self hosted blog (Buy hosting and domain)..then read more others blog to learn how to make money with your blog. It's all taking time and effort to achieve. Enjoy blogging dude! :)

First you should choose a topic that interests you. It may be anything but you should make it clear that you can make a blog successful if you are passionate about your blog topic. This helps you to get new ideas and content for your blog.

Another tip I can give is, Don't blog in a vacuum, meaning...look around at other blogs and see what other people are doing. Don't get so involved with your own blog that you don't notice different options, and features that other bloggers offer to enhance the reader experience....you shouldn't exactly copy other bloggers, but some thing can push you in the right direction to make your blog better.

Remember, no one who comes to your blog knows you and it's not a popularity contest. You will be judged by the design and content you offer, and that is what will bring readers back, not who you are (unless you have a name for yourself in a certain niche or industry)

Try and look at your blog as if it's not yours, and see what other see when the visit. Some things that might be your style, or things that you understand, may not be familiar to readers, so be as straight forward as possible.

Figure out a business plan before you start. What's the point in writing about something just to be writing.

Keep in mind that blogging does take quite a bit of time and effort to be successful. Once you have your blog up and running promote it using a tool like BlogBuzzer

Thanks for all the tips you guys and I will visit and bookmark all the sites mentioned above.

Internetmarketingiq: You talked about, what's the point of writing just to write? Well, I like writing a lot! So writing to just write is fun for me :) Thanks for the business plan bit. I'm taking marketing in school this summer and one of the projects is to make a business plan, so that class can help me do that.

hmansfield: Thanks again for the tips. I think the one about looking at my blog like it isn't mine will help me a lot!
