http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yPmtQDWZ1s http://www.russiatoday.com/Sci_Tech/2009-03-26/A_not-so-private_PC.html I've been searching the net and there isn't much clear news that I can find from other news sources that may be deemed credible outlets. So before I proceed, I propose a challenge for this "report" to be debunked.. This is not a hoax however. So let me get this right.. Obama is seeking to criminalize copyright infringement, a civil matter, to expand the size and scope of not just government, but.. wait for it.. waaaait for it!.. GLOBAL government!
I think the lack of being able to find a single credible source for this information is enough to debunk it until said sources emerge. The article you linked to doesn't even attempt to mention a source. It merely vaguely states it's happening in just the first 2 sentences then spends the rest/other 90% of the article talking about how bad it would be. If it's true I'd be VERY interested in an explanation. This not only doesn't sound like Obama and everything he campaigned on, but it just isn't something I can see liberal democrats being interested in. Not taking a shot but it sounds like something the Bush administration would push to diminish our rights in the name of national security.... doesn't it?
Copyright infringement is already a federal crime. See here: http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap5.html#506 May I ask what this has to do with the 4th Amendment and why you think anyone is seeking to abolish it? You know that any treaty must comply with the US Constitution and be ratified by Congress, so this seems much ado about nothing. First, because it will never go anywhere, but more importantly, because there is no reason to think Obama supports any of the provisions you seem to be concerned about. People in other countries can propose all they want, not sure why you twist to around to make it like Obama is pushing these provisions.
I agree. Copyright infringement for mass reproduction and commercial gain is a federal crime. Where does it say otherwise? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution You know that Congress no longer works for the people right?
Seems appropriate to mention here: Senate Legislation Would Federalize Cybersecurity Indications are that they are going for legal authority and practical means to control the internets.
