The only two sources to trust are

    seomoz.org

    seobook.com

Anyone here who says they wrote a guide, is likely to have been lucky ranking non - competitive keyword terms....

otherwise they would not need to try and promote themselves. ;)

Yep, start with this guide and it will get you 90% of the way there.

Basically pick good keywords, get variations of them in your page title, page description, H1 tag, and page text. Then get links back to your page from related sites with variations of the same keywords.

I wrote a guide to keywords in web design: SEO basics. As the title suggests, it gives you basic seo advice (including sample code) for how to use keywords in website deisgn for SEO.

Beyond that, beware of using flash, entry pages and frames - they can all impact on seo. Seek further knowledge if you want to use these.

Also, you need to build backlinks - go through a few pages of this section of the forum and you will get a pretty good idea.

Below is a prime example of why its best to stick to seomoz.org and seobook.com for SEO advice.

<title>Website Design Suffolk, Affordable Web Design Suffolk</title>

Keyword repeats are useless....probably earned a filter for it..

<meta name="keywords" content="Website design Suffolk, web design Suffolk, website designer Suffolk, web designer Suffolk, affordable website design suffolk" />

Not used by the search engines any longer for keyword rankings. Is used by one for spam checking which is probably why in that engine you do not rank well.. If it were used for rankings....your example would be flagged for keyword stuffing......

    Website Design: H1 - H6 Tags

    What h6 tag????

    lol

These have been depreciated for overuse by so called SEOs (cough)

    <img alt="Website design: Suffolk 12 Step Workshop"

Actually its keyword stuffed and does not take into account who the tag was developed for which is those that are vision impaired.

Alt image tag should be limited to just one or two of the images at the top of the page. Since text to speech readers do not care for capital letters, so no need to use caps, if anything probably an indicator to the search engines you SEOd your page.

alt="website design image" is all that is needed.

Thank you though for proving my point in reference to having a bit of luck with rankings and suddenly feeling you are qualified to offer SEO advice. most are not......

PS real SEOs do not need a keyword oriented domain to rank at the top for competitive keywords....

Sorry to burst your bubble but someone needs to stop the spread of misinformation here at DP.

No problems......good relevant links can do so much good it is hard to explain.

Some of the sites doing over 1,000,000 visitors per month typically have traffic figures along the following.

    Direct Traffic - 40%

    Referral Traffic - 50%

    Search Traffic - 10%

While search engine traffic is nice to have, it is often window shoppers, tire kickers types who are not looking to spend money but often want "free" information.

I try to explain to clients that businesses are built in many ways, just as they were for centuries before a search engine arrived.

    ;)

Aaron used to have a SEOBOOK but I think he discontinued that. May be he has started a membership site in place of that.
