DMOZ is another name for the Open Directory Project, which is found at http://www.dmoz.org . From "About the Open Directory Project":
DMOZ is Open (free) directory site. It plays vital role in Search engines & link building technologies. Some experts say that "Entire Dmoz list = google rank". If ur site is listed in appropriate Dmoz category and u can earn some votes by users, then soon u will be privileged from major search engines.
I don't think they've said that in a loooooong time though. Google certainly hasn't... in fact, google has been know to go months before bothering to update it's own clone of the project.
And is free, but because we operate with volunteers no one can offer a timescale of how long a review by an editor will take. It is also the largest human edited directory. Q for Q to pop up and bleat about sites that were used to seed the directory..............
It was actually pointed out to me that there was some time between the creation of DMOZ and the adding of TOPIX. So, no they were not seeds, unless you are talking about planting backlinks to the same site And are you disagreeing with what I said? I mean, how can it get any easier to get a site listed then to have a bot automatically put them in
Just to repeat, you told the op that the best way was to get them listed by bot. Can you tell him how you have done this or was this just plain stupid advice?
I'm not sure. Could you please quote me saying that? I've told a LOT of people to get listed by submitting... I've never had that done. Is that just stupid advice as well?
Perhaps just misinformed rather than stupid. DMOZ is not a listing service, and therefore does not provide a way for anyone to "get" sites listed. However, it does offer people the chance to suggest suitable sites, simply so that volunteers can find them more easily when they decide to look for worthwhile additions to the directory. But there are many places editors can search for sites, of course, and the pool of suggestions is just one place they can look if they feel like it.
Buy guaranteed DMOZ listing from ODP senior editors You are right makrhod, senior editors search for sites in many places, scriptlance, getfreelancer,......
And your colourful point is what, exactly? What on earth makes you think such idiotic projects and offers are successful or genuine? There is no law stopping people from stupidly trying to pay for something which is free, just as there is no law stopping people from lying for profit. If such advertisements upset you, why not do something about it and remind those silly people that they risk a permanent DMOZ listing ban on their sites if they offer to bribe an editor? And to repeat yet again ... if anyone (even gworld) has actual evidence of editors accepting or requesting payment, please report it using the Public Abuse form. Genuine, factual reports are always investigated promptly and if the report is true, the editor is immediately removed. So if you have actual evidence (rather than the freelancer etc ads which are of course meaningless), please stop ranting here and present it for investigation. Otherwise, why bother jumping up and down?
Getting listed in Dmoz is beneficial but just do not fall for such proxy claims. Even if your bride one editor, i guess DMOZ is well-aware of the fact of bribing editors and must have some strict rules and most probably it may require more than one editor recommendations to get listed in DMOZ...
I tried to download DMOZ's rdf dump and embedd it into my custom SQL website, huh ye aright ! took forever !!! just gave up, to answer your main question DMOZ is a bloody large open directory that basically stores links pertaining to numerous websites. DMOZ takes forever to accept new links/websites upto suggestion.... rather try google...
No, this is not true. All editors can add sites that they find, as long as they meet the Selection Criteria. And volunteers can look for worthwhile sites anywhere they like. Sites suggested by other people are no more than one resource out of many.
Someone could make this claim without even being or knowing an editor, take on 100 projects and if 5 get listed, they collect and live happily in their village for the next 12 months. They just won't collect from or will have to reimburse the client. Hey does any one want to get into Harvard, Cambridge, the Indian Institute of Technology, or Cal State Dominguez Hills? Submit your application to the school, PM me, and I will guarantee you will get in and all you have to do is pay me $400 when you get your acceptance letter. I can give the same guarantee on DMOZ listings and presidential appointments!
