New CJ Javascript Product Links (sorry for yet another CJ javascript question)

I have a CJ account and have something like 30 merchants I joined. For the most part, I post specific product links from these merchants using the Get Links By Product tool for each merchant. With CJ's change to use javascript links, I am wondering how this will work with a forum. I don't think I can post a javascript link to a product in a thread. Today, you can still get the Legacy-Link html code, atleast for a little longer. Is there any other way to just embed my CJ id to a merchants product url and still be able to track the sale?

Sorry, but I am just a little confused here.

Most forums will let you post javascript (I know vbulletin does).

Unless you can post JS into the forum (I wouldn't think this was allowed since it could be a security risk) then you won't be able to post the affiliate links.

Normal links will still be available until at least next year though.

I had heard the same thing about javascript being a security risk and most forums disable it or it's desabled by default.

So, as soon as the legacy product links stop working, I won't be able to post a product link from a CJ merchant on my forum site. At that point, there would be no reason for me to continue to be associated with CJ. Sad, but there wouldn't be any benefit to me after that happens.

Actually, if you use vbulletin, check out vbulletin.org. Ace wrote a nifty plugin that lets you assign HTML posting privledges to specific usergroups. So you can allow admins and mods to post javascript and HTML but not regular, end users.

Going to have to check to see if they have a plugin/mod/hack for that and if not, hire someone to make you one.

Good rumors coming from Affiliate Summit.

Revenews and Jango both blogged about the fact there is a RUMOR at the Summit that legacy links won't be going away and CJ reversed their decision to make javascript mandatory. Waiting for official confirmation from CJ. Maybe they will confirm on tomorrows CJ radio show on WebmsterRadio??? I'll be over in the chatroom hoping they do, but I doubt it because I think the show is pre-recorded. It would be cool if they would do a 'live' show from the Summit!

BTW one of my clients - Brook Schaaf is video taping the entire event plus doing tons of interviews on video. So this show will have lots of video to watch instead of just pics, for those of us that missed it. I decided to skip this one. Too hot in Orlando for me!

Awesome news! I may just switch back to CJ...

I think CJ's decision has come to become one of those lessons that go down in affiliate history - ask your userbase before doing anything significant, no matter how right you believe it is.

I wonder if any heads rolled from this whole tirade...

Rumor now has it that the rumor was false or the CJ employee that supposedly said it was wrong. So like I said it was a rumor and should be considered such unless and until CJ posts official notice on the site.
