I've been trying to get into DMOZ for months but my site is never listed.I even applied to be an editor of a category and my application was declined.Any general tips on getting into DMOZ will be appreciated. Thanks
Becoming an editor is easy, and many applications are accepted every day, from people of all ages and educational levels. You received feedback explaining why your last attempt was unsuccessful, so once you have thought about those issues, simply read the instructions thoroughly, complete the form carefully, and answer all questions honestly.
I assume you have submitted your site. After that there are no more tips that are helpful except the only tip would be: move on.
There's no point in keeping trying. Here's why. If a website doesn't meet our Site Selection Criteria, we aren't going to list it. It doesn't matter if a listable website's been suggested to the wrong category or with a non-guidelines compliant title and description; we simply move or fix these. Re-suggesting a website merely overwrites any previous suggestion, thus pushing it down to the bottom of the pile if some editor sorts it in suggestion date order. This probably isn't the effect you're hoping for. If a website is suggested to lots of different categories in defiance of our Submission Guidelines, it risks being deemed spam and treated accordingly. HTH
They have many categories in their directory, try a new sub category or a new approach and joint down the reasons as to why you didn't get accepted in the last attempt, and correct that.
The comments above relate to becoming an editor, and all applicants receive feedback after their application is reviewed, whether or not they are accepted. However, if you are talking about site suggestions, then no, there is no feedback because you can easily tell for yourself if the site has been listed or not, just by looking.
To be automatically listed by bots (much like Skenta's Topix listings). That IS the easiest way to get a listing. After that is to be a human and list it yourself (become an editor), followed by getting an editor to see your site while they are in editor mode.
Oh, I've not done it. I'm just saying that it's the easiest way to get a listing. I mean, yeah, getting to that point may of been hard, but I'm sure the 10k ++ listings were well worth it, and everyone of them after the first was a cinch to add... just plug the bot in and let IT work. No fretting on the side of the editors, and no hassle for the owners of the site.
Hmm, you must have unaccountably forgotten the many posts from different editors on this subject on this very forum. Still, I guess it's easier for you that way.
Those were the days when you could talk on here as an editor instead of now as a bitter ex-editor, who tries to mish mash everything to try and make the prize you had and lost look as bad as it can be, by twisting as many things as possible and taking facts out of context. I re-iterate what I have said before if folks want any advice on here they can chose between experienced editors and those who are ex-editors with little or no practical experience of the workings of DMOZ. I know who I would like to fix my car, the mechanic or the oily rag.
