There really isn't one "best" method. You'll get far better results using a combination of techniques versus just one. Another disadvantage of using just a single method is that fact that it starts to look unnatural. I would suggest developing an action plan on weekly or daily basis. For example, Monday - make 5 good blog posts on do follow blogs Tuesday - Write an article and submit to Ezinearticles Wednesday - Make 5 good posts in some related forums with links in your sig Thursday - Bookmark 3-6 pages through Digg and Propeller Friday - Start a Blogger or wordpress blog and make posts to it with links to your main site This is a rough example, but sticking with a plan like this will build links in a more natural sequence over time.
article submission is by far the best natural way of creating backlinks. Just make sure you write quality articles so that other people use them and you get backlinks from their sites too
Google gives less importance to backlinks (BL) from forums. Let your BL originate from as diverse source as possible and give importance to one way BL from related niches. Let your link building be a continuous process but remember to update the contents of your site too
I agree with the people above who say that you need to use multiple strategies. That way if one strategy stops working, you have other good strategies to fall back on. By using multiple strategies you have a much better chance of satisfying all the major search engines.
I have a couple of old blogs, with many posts...on wordpress...is there a way of adding a signature to all those posts*** without having to edit each post*** This would offer a hundred new backlinks to my site if possible...
In my prospective, blog commenting, forum posting, and directory submitting are the best because I've noticed a greater increase in backlinks ever since I performed such procedures.
