Why don't people want their site indexed on DP?

People in selling forums often times don't put their URL because it will be indexed here.

How is that bad? You gain some SEO power and get more views, how does it hurt?

    Just curious.

Not sure all of the reasons but I know some people just don't want others stealing their techniques they are using for their websites.

I have also noticed this and have been wondering the same thing. The only thing I could think of is what Jericho33 said.

Other than that, I don't know!

All I know is that its been helping every site I put in my sig :)

Anyone else think or know of a different reason?

Which I understand, but if anyone PMs them they freely give the URL, so why is it bad to just post?

If you're hiding something from other posters on a marketing forum, I probably wouldn't want to buy from you anyway, you know?

To me, sales are sales, and if they come from a posting I made on a forum, the money is still green.

To me, if you really have what it takes, you wouldn't really afraid of saturation or anyone stealing your ideas..

If they don't want to index their site, it might be because they don't want to get sources from this specific forum.

I would say this is the reason more than anything, who doesn't like backlinks. ;)

Some people when selling or buying a site, would rather not have people googling the site and seeing it had been sold. I don't know why they would care, but it seems to matter to some people.

When you sell a website you offer a lot of info about it... traffic, income, and so on... I think you don't want your competitors to see those informations if it is possible. Also the new buyer will be glad if only him know this info...

People steal a lot more than ideas, they rip off entire designs, articles, themes etc.

I also don't think that backlinks from forums count for much, unless they're related to your own sites anyway, so it's hardly beneficial.

One big reason is people do this in the selling forum at least is that when you sell text links at least on a site you do not want your Url begining posted with the ad. If google catches wind that you are trying to make a few bucks on the side because you have a good Pr they will take your Pr completely away.

That's just if your trying to sell a text link.

As far as not putting your sites link in your sig that's a different story, I personally don't due it because I want to separate my "work place" from my site. I don't really have any other reason than that haha it's not a very good one if you ask me but it's my answer.

It should be illegal for google to do that. you sell links, and google wants to rip you off by killing your PR because you are selling links...why does this matter to google? honestly, this does not even make sense..

but as long as we keep using google, and buying their crap, they will continue to be god over the internet. we give them the power. it is why they are a billion dollar company, and we are not...

I know it should be illegal. One of the reasons that Google does this is because they give Pr to sites who they think have content that is high quality and is unique. They give Pr for a lot more reasons but those 2 things are the foundation. Now, they don't want crap sites showing up in search engines because the information is not useful to searchers, but when a site with high Pr give a solid link to a crappy site Googles algorithm automatically puts these crappy sites right back into the search results because they thing that the site your linking to must be good too. This makes good work harder at distinguishing the good sites from the crap sites. So a simple and effective method to their problem is simply to strip the Pr from your site and make the crap sites drop out of search results as well as yours.

Other than that reason I don't know to much about the matter, I just know that when I had one of my site's Pr stripped from it I was confused and with a little searching that is what I discovered. And with this basic understanding of why Google will strip your Pr I no longer give my Url out when placing an ad for it just in case someone or something (robot) from Google sees the ad and reports it. I mean Google employees a little over 20,000 people and I'm sure with the popularity of this site that one of those 20,000 has an account or at least knows what's going on here when people post in the Buy/Sell/Trade area.

This is pretty much what I believe. While I only recently became active again on DP, I remember Threads here where a poster claimed their entire site was copied and managed to track it to another DP user. Some of the thieves were brazen enough to list those copied sites in BST.

Personally, I have only used test/demo sites as forum links. Backlinks can be gotten better ways than from a forum with potential copycats.

I think some maybe scared people will steal their ideas, funny thing is DP is a community for like minded people, Internet Marketers, I guess it would like be feeding your child to the lions and hoping that somehow it will survive.

For those wanting to get their sites indexed, throw up a few links ;)
