blog.domain.com or www.domain.com/blog ?

is there any conclusion that blog.domain.com is better than www.domain.com/blog (or vice versa) for SEO purpose? or, it is a myth, and really depends on case by case. Or, it really does not matter, and depends on how to build the back links. or else?

A blog in my opinion should always be a subdomain....ie....blog.domain.com

When it is a subdomain, you have to work from scratch in obtaining a high PR. Whereas a blog on a subfolder will inherit the PR from the main domain.

    I suggest site.com/blog

However, most of the big sites. cnn, facebook, myspace use subdomains. Just a thought.

It's not a myth. Using a subfolder instead of a subdomain is better for SEO, as the root domain gets the benefits of blog link building, which is not the case if you set it up on a subdomain.

Agree with that point. I'd use /blog.

you need to understand when a sub-domain is good and when a directory. if you are going to host large amount of content which is completely different from your main site then use sub-domain. as in your case, you want to have a blog then using the sub-domain is the best option. on the other hand if you don't have to host large amount of unrelated content then use the sub-directory.

I read somewhere that google no more value subdomain.site.com as a separate domain it considers it equal to a subfolder that is www.site.com/subfolder/
Effectively you can use whatever you want

not necessarily and it depends how you link between the two.

subdomains will appear in the SERP as a separate entry to the main domain, while folders will (or can anyway) appear as an indented listing from the main domain. either will inherit PR from the main domain if linked to, and neither will if not linked to.

Shailendra's answer is the most relevant, is it a new subject, or does it tie in the the main site?

if there's lots of new and different content it will rank in places your site never will, so use a subdomain, if it's to add further content on the same theme you're already on, then use folders.

this is a good thread on the subject, if you can put up with the bickering :)

I am not talking about interlinking on the site, I am referring to backlinks to the blog from other domains. Whatever backlinks you get to the blog on a subfolder will benefit the main domain name and build up its authority, which is not the case if you use a subdomain. What I suggested was intended for blog content which is the same topic as the main domain. Why else would you start up a blog on the site.
