Is AdSense PRIVACY POLICY necessary?

Hearing this info, I want to reverify the fact as to whether or not a "privacy policy" on your site is absolutely necessary? And if so, what if you own multiple URLS? Do you add it to all of them? Or just your main site which could have the links to all the separate URLs you run dSense on? Curiouser & more curiouser about this one.

Btw: What kind of sample "Privacy Policy" are you using? To protect your on "privacy" simply post one with your URL as XXX's.

I have several different websites, and I have Privacy Policies on almost all of them (some I just don't feel like writing them, but when I have time I will).

Check the footer in Web Proxy Facts in my signature for an example of one I wrote, just don't copy.

Only if you want to keep your account. Each site must have it's own privacy policy.

THANK YOU to all who've responsded. How about A SINGLE PRIVACY POLICY and write it so it is "universal" to all of your web sites, if you own many sites and put it one one site and have all others linking to it? Is this possible? In essence:
#1. Place it as a sub page / domain on your highest page ranked site
#2. Create a text hyperlink from all other domains / URLs you have, pointing to that page?

This is like asking "..is it necessary to pay the publishers for the adspace they are providing on the site?" lol... kiddin man.

Yeah it sure is necessary because a certain number of people will care a lot about their web browsing privacy.

You can check out my privacy policy here.

Mine is quite detailed and focuses on adsense, blog comments, RSS by email newsletters"

Check out a standard generator online like any of the following two as they are really helpful.

Previously I never bother about putting the privacy policy thing but ever since it started showing in adsense account (something like a reminder), it would be wise to follow and do what is requested.

One last question: If you have a domain with 30 or 40 sub domains or pages, should the privacy policy be linked between all pages or simply linked on actual index page of the site?

GREAT HELP HERE ON THIS THREAD btw!

I myself can not understand why they would want you to add to the policy I have 4 sites plus the blog out of the for sites 3 are selling products. With all of the sites put together the policy pages may get looked at about say a average of 5 times a month now thats a average of all the site together.

Adsense says that NAI suggests the following data collection of non-personally identifying information:

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, click here.

Can i just ad that to my privacy policy/TOS and it work?

Anyone care to post a sample PP?
A bare-bones type of PP that can be used as a "template"?

You should seriously read the Terms and Conditions and Program Policies, both of which you agreed to follow when you signed up for Adsense. Here is the relevant part:

    https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=48182&topic=8423
It can't be spelled out any more clearly than that.

Doesn't matter about pleasing Adsense, it's a legal requirement to have a privacy policy. From what I understand, a basic privacy policy will do you no good either! Unless you have a compact privacy policy then web users using browsers like I.E will usually block all tracking cookies for whatever affiliate programs you may have running.
