2 domains on same IP - OK for SEO??

I have 2 domains in the same niche and I am about to upload the second website to this hosting but it is on the IP, will this get me penalised by Google?

You see I have my own wholesale web hosting.

    Any ideas?

I believe Matt Cutts from Google said this is not an issue just as long as you have unique content on each site.

If you exchange links in 2 sites in one C class network it will not be used in google like a strong link

    1. Do u place Adsense on both site? if yes, you'll got smart pricing
    2. Do you link each other ? if yes, it wont increase your serp

Can you prove #1? I find that hard to believe, unless ONE of the two sites is underperforming with CTR or having other issues with Adsense.

If you are targeting same keywords and selling the same products then there is nothing wrong at targeting the same keywords with both sites (that way you will get a bigger share in SERPs if you manage to rank with both sites). 2 sites on same IP, isn't really a problem. What might be considered a problem is 30-50 sites on same IP to build a network of sites and interlink them.

Not nice to hijack geester1's thread like that! ;)

IMO this is not the ideal configuration if your intent is to have the mysite.com to rank at Google.com and the mysite.ca to rank at Google.ca (can't really think of any reason to have both otherwise). The mysite.ca site would do better in Google.ca if it were hosted in Canada. And the mysite.com would do better in Google.com if it were hosted in the US. You can host them both at the same hosting company, even same IP... it just puts one or the other at a bit of a disadvantage.

I don't think the cross-over in keywords you target matters if they are both selling the same products as pointed out by Trapped. However, each site should have its own unique content. And by unique I don't mean a few words changed here or there. I mean different templates, unqiue product descriptions, etc.

Avoid to link between sites on same IP = link to own sites.

    Axa,

thanks for your comments, no I don't use Adsense and I do not link the sites together, the only link is the iP address. Everything else is unique, images, content, webpage layout even telephone numbers.

I don't think it will create any problem. I have 5 sites belong to same niche on same IP and I never faced any SEO related problem.

    No problems

I have 44 domains on the same ip and even done some internal linking too, google is not worried as long as you dont start linking heavily where they are forced to take notice, be clever when doing that

Yes, but should not be of same industry - I mean website on that IP shoud be different i.e one selling mobile and other selling health products.

I saw Matt Cutts talked about this matter some where. He said that, having multiples sites on the same hosting/Ip is perfectly fine. There is no penalization of any kind.
