If you are in position #5 for good keywords, you'l only see a relatively small benefit for being #1. You seem to be doing the right things but if possible limit the number of recip. links and get good quality one-way links from relevant pages.

If you are #5, it is easy to get #1. Do link exchange with sites have related theme and high PR.

brian65 I disagree. Ranking #1 is significantly better than #5. In studies I believe they have found that people on average click on the first ranked website about 85 percent of the time. In some cases people will find what they want on the first result and have no need to check out other results. At a minimum you should aim for top 3 to get a decent percentage of the traffic.

This may work or may not! When the case is to optimize already top 10 site there are no general advices. It's a process of fine analyses what your competitors actually do to to rank and what you can do to outrank them....

yeah getting links from relevent pages is very important rather than non related links... so also if you make a new website choose your niche carefully :D

Continue to build links. Sooner or later you may catch up with your competitors.

Why are just focusing on Offpage Activity, Optimize your pages accordingly with Title, Alt, H1.

Even more, check out the top 3 sites ranking on Google. Digg deeper why they are ranking better than you. Analise their websites, onpage changes, links. You will probably get their position.
