Increasing the tax on those who EARN $250k or more will not cover the runaway spending.

The government will need to target incomes as low as 75k.

I think they should abolish income tax. I believe it's unconstitutional.

Ok, so you weren't talking about AIG. But the House Resolution dealt with taxing at a 90% rate all bonuses from those who take government money in the form of bailouts.

To me, these AIG, Citigroup, Bank of America, Wall Street employees/executives should be fired, indicted, and their assets seized.

It'd all be sorted if the federal reserve could be audited. Then the people who caused all these problems would be behind bars.

I agree. Has anyone heard any news on Ron Paul's bill to audit the Fed?? When does it go up for vote?

And although the AIG thing REALLY angers me, I'm more concerned about the budget and how much that's going to screw us when it comes to energy. Sounds like gas, heating, and electric are going to DOUBLE from tax alone. If Obama is so worried about "the People" and our cost of living, then why is he going to double the cost of energy?

Because the energy lobbyists want him to Firefirl. He's not for the people. He is for himself and the party. He coned so many people that I think it is funny (in a doomish sort of way) that people actually believe a word that comes out of that man's mouth. Like I've said before, until he can prove he is constitutionally able to be president, I refuse to believe it.

The income tax is more constitutional than social security taxes.

Social Security was a GREAT idea. Present generation pays for past generations, theoretically, it would work. But, the government has no idea what it's doing with money anymore. But, you can't expect much from a government when society can't even pay their bills on time because of financial irresponsibility.

bogart, we don't play by the constitution anymore. Haven't you figured that out from the MEssiah himself? He is refusing to prove his eligibility to be president. That is my BIGGEST issue with him. Obviously he has something to hide.

In America (or in your state) can you opt out of paying for your state pension and the like, and fund your own private savings instead?

Nope. It is mandatory at the Federal level. Only state employees who pay into a state retirement system can opt out of the Federal program.

lol, I'm pretty sure he's being sarcastic. Social security was doomed to fail from the beginning because like you said it is essentially a ponzi scheme.

In order to get the public to accept social security, the taxes were low at first. People that collected in the first thirty years paid no where near what the collected. There was one guy that paid in $100 and lived to collect $30,000 which was a lot of money at the time.

At this point the system is busted due to the fact that the money in not invested.

It's stange that we don't know what Hospital Obama was born in ad who where the attending doctors.

    Anyone have that information?

Well, he says it was a particular hospital in Hawaii... but there are sources which verify his grandmother and another relative witnessing his birth in Kenya.

Exactly, no proof of anything. And to be honest I dont' now how much I can believe the authenticity of a document supporting the Hawaii claim anymore. Sadly, conspiracy theorists are probably right about this. And since there was a case brought against Obama demanding the proof by a citizen, that was shot down by the courts, I don't think we'll ever see it. Which is sad, way to trample on our constitution.

Actually a good argument can be made (the last time I looked) that social security would still be sound, except for the fact that some yeras back when the need to balence a budget was great, the social security funds got mixed into the general fund.

I don't recall the masteminds of this "great adventure" but it is in the last 30years.

I remember that colbyt. If the government would stop dipping into it, it would be a good system. However, it could also be a bad system. Due to the fact that the people coming up on social security are the baby boomers. So there are a lt of people taking from it, but littl eactually giving.

People should at least have the right to opt out of social security.

There was legislature introduced by the republicans not long ago that was shot down by the democrats (shortly after they gained congress). My biggest erk with Bush was the fact he had a republican congress and didn't pass more initiatives. But, then again, I also respect him for that. The democratic congress is too busy pushing their agenda's while screwing the people, where as the republican's were, for the most part, thinking about americans and willing to work across the aisle.
