Well your prefering to live nearer to himalayas than its better to live in shimla , very pleasant wether, near to captial city delhi and close to himalayas.
Did you think of traveling to Egypt? I know you are looking for somewhere exotic, so I am not sure if Egypt would be on the list. The good thing about Egypt is that you can live and have fun in Egypt no matter what your budget is. Lots of cool places to spend your time in yet not very expensive. I spent a week in Sharm El Sheikh, stayed in a nice hotel full board and enjoyed every day more than the day before. I just spent a mere $280.
easily you can live on 1,000 but there are also places that are exotic beautiful and cheap to live in. Like south or central America and there are way less people.
I'm from Texas and have lived in Cancun for 3 years and spet a little time in Belize. I also spent a few months in Merida (directly south of houston on the Yucatan Peninsula) and that is a very clean city, with a lot of character, and it was cheap (they have a Costco too!). I hooked up with one of my employees cousins and she had an apartment that I would be proud to live in for $95 a month. Most people in the building she lived in were from Europe or the USA. We went to a nice night club and cover and unlimited drinks with bottle service was less than $10! I drank a lot while I lived there. I go to Costa Rica once every year or 2 and chill out. I love volcanoes, speak decent spanish, and love to rent an SUV and have some fun in the mud. Aguas Calientes, Mexico is a cool town.
That sums it up, even I live in dehradun and it's pretty good living here. Just get a nice house(better buy one) in a good colony, also consider getting a car or something so that you don't get ripped off by public transport system, they try to rip you off on seeing you're a foreigner
himaliya is beautiful but cold too how about the philippines or thailand? lots ex service guys retire there and you gonna have women all over ya
If you chose to live in smaller towns or villages, you can lead a great life. but if you choose metros like delhi, bangalore, chennai, or mumbai, etc... you can lead a normal and decent life out of it, not so luxurious though. It also depends on the number of family members you are going to bring.!
Off course friend, $1,000 a month is more than enough to stay in a country like India. And if you move to a non-metro city like Nasik, you will even save more money.
I think that the difference between India and South of the border is that real estate is a lot more expensive in India. On a $1000 a month you could actually afford to buy property in Central America or Colombia as well as live there. India would be a good experience especially with someone with time on their hands to explore the educational possibilities especially with Industries connected to IT outsourcing.
Working for what company, I wonder? I know for a fact that HP, Apple and Dell all have tech support call centers there. Dell and HP are also located in the Philippines. One thing about those Philippino tech reps: they speak amazing English! I kid you not, many of them have NO TRACE of an accent. Many of them sound as if they have spent their entire life living in Omaha! Can't say that for the Indian techs, though. I'm not picking on the Indians, there are some very good techs in India. I'm basing this report on a great many calls I've made to Dell and HP since '05. Though I will say, as someone who's interested in having their computer repaired in the most efficient manner possible, I wish computer manufacturers that outsource their work would give all of their work to the Philippinos. I really don't care if a Martian or a prisoner sitting in a jail cell works on my computer, I just want it diagnosed and repaired in the most efficient way possible (when it needs to be repaired) without the dire burden of trying to understand someone who's not very good at speaking English. And the techs in India are nowhere near as good at speaking English as the techs in the Philippines are. Some of the techs in India, at times, have pushed me to the edge. Boy did I curse like a drunk sailor....
Good evening! This is Charles Brown. How may i help you sir ??? You think that you are talking to a fool at the other end of a call center call. So do we! ~ source: PAPA CJ
Yes definitely you will have a good life here with that money. If you choose to live in a small city in Himalayan foot hills, the cost of living will be much more cheaper. An average Indian living in a city like Delhi earns less than Rs10,000 and still has a good life. As you will have around 48,000 Indian rupees, you can live comfortably here.
I think you can live comfortably, not very comfortably like having driver, staying on good localities etc.
