I hear a lot about people earning HEAPS using blogspot but what if I want to use my own domain? Can I do that and still have good earnings? Or should I start with blogspot?

You can always start with blogspot, they have an option that you at anytime can swap it into a domain, but still host it on blogspot.

Also its very easy in future if you get hosting ready to import all of blogger posts into wordpress if that interests you.
Theres no advantages and disadvantages of using or not using blogspot. Content, traffic, and the niche is how the only thing that can make a blog earn more. Not where its hosted :D

    Good luck

Both blogspot and own domain is treated equally by search engines, but your own domain will help on giving a more professional image.

when i started out i used blogspot. it's a great platform to start learning about the ins and outs of blogging. when you get the hang of it, you can always buy your own domain. i agree with mdamin76 though. the main advantage of having your own domain now is the image of professionalism. although i have no figures to show you, i am pretty sure that having your own domain will earn you more respect from people who have been around the net for quite some time

Go with blogspot, that's not a problem first, people don't really care if it is blogspot or a domain, unless you are selling your product. Just get a professional layout, at least one that looks professional, or don't get any layout at all, look for "make money online" and check out which website comes first.. ;)

The quality of your content, not who hosts your blog will determine your earnings..

Buy your own domain and get some hosting space. It's cheap.

You can blog using Wordpress and manage it without relying on Google's Blogger. Wordpress offers TONS of themes and plugins.
You can use email address for your own domain.
You can install photo galleries, put your own-designed about page, etc.

If you already have your own domain then go with it... I have 3 big blogspot sites with great traffic and realized that it is very hard to sell these websites...

Everyone starts with blogspot. When you have earned enough money and gained more experience, you can now buy a new domain. But if your blogging is just a hobby or additional earnings, I would not recommend you to buy a domain.

If you are going for long term commitment then it should be better to have your own domain. If you are using blogspot, no matter how successful the site is, the domain still belongs to blogger.

The image of blogspot is not a good one. These sort of blogs receive very little respect as the vast majority of them are spam blogs with people desperate to make a few cent from poorly written content. Getting your own domain will get you a far better image of professionalism for your site which, in the long run, should earn you more.

If you are serious about blogging get a hoting account and your own domain. Blogspot is mostly for amateurs.
