    Dear bobbyt
Thank you for your detailed reply.
Generally I also think that a static page is something much more flexible than a blog script.

On the other hand I guess that maybe some of the users will be interested in subscribing to and RSS feed. Also adding the RSS feed to FeedBurner etc. may cause it to be republished by other bloggers.

So the position in the middle is somehow to create an RSS feed from the static pages.

Did someone hear for a PHP script or something similar that can automate this task? For example scan a folder and create a feed from it.

    This is my story:

I had a static HTML site - it wasn't doing very well
I then changed it over to Wordpress, and search engine traffic increased by over 400%

    Wordpress for me!

I believe it is not from just switching to WP. I believe you have submitted it to some blog portals and added lots of extra content.
    Right?

Nah, wordpress is seo optimized and it's hard to match the seo capacity with a normal website - but of course it's possible. The RSS feeds is a huge plus and it has the ping ability - don't underestimate a RSS feed.

Creating a RSS feed for a normal website is tricky and adding the ping ability is hard.

I guess you use SEO plugins. Can you name some?
One of the most important is to use a rewrite base URL-s with your relevant keyords instead of some id=xx I guess.

When it comes to SE rankings - no CMS can beat the SEO expert optimizing individual pages.
Believe me I tried several times, my "handmade" pages rank fast and good without excessive link building and always beat any CMS site.

But that is of cause only a solution if your site is small, if you want to create 100s or 1000s of pages wordpress is the easiest to handle CMS solution.

    Dear Friends
thank you for your advises, but "Go for WP" or "Go for static" does not help too much. Please be a bit more specific as bobbyt and the others did.
If you say you prefer static please give example why and did you compare it to WP at all?
If you prefer WP what tools and plugins did you use?

Thank you all for your comments!

I consider wordpress an essential ingredient in the SEO link development mix. Blogging, blog commenting, forums, link exchange, ezine articles, press releases, social bookmarking, and other sites like HUB and Squidoo are ALL necessary and must be kept updated and added to as much as your website.

Maintaining a wordpress blog is a lot easier and less tedious. Opt for that! You can even customize it for better results.

Why do it the hard way when you can have nice looking template for your articles? You can create the pages manually but you will have to spend a lot of time if you do that. I think it's just a matter of personal preferences.
