Word Press stats question, and sugestions.

What exactly does wordpress.com stats for self hosted blogs measure? It doesn't seem to match up with other indicators.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a another, more accurate stats plug in for word press?

Of course I could Google search all day long and find many, but I would like to hear form someone that is using something that they are happy with.

Anything but Google Analytics ! That crap shows I haven't had one visitor since Feb 20, which is impossible since I am making sales everyday.

    All help is appreciated.

Well, you can use Wordpress.com stats plugin, but you would need an API of Wordpress.com

Do you guys use these, and if so how happy are you with the tracking ?

That is what I have, and I can't figure out what traffic it's reporting...it's obviously not accurate.

This is the one I'm using and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It gives me the information I need.

    With it I can see:

    1) How many visitors I get each day
    2) Where the visitors are coming from (referrers)
    3) Google searches bring them to my site
    4) Incoming links
    5) What posts were clicked and how many times

    Works for me. :)

Yeah, I just need more than that, besides, it's not very accurate for me. Everyday it's like 300 - 400 Unique Visitors lower than my server stats, and it doesn't seem to account for page views at all.
It seems like it's only counting people that come in on the home page.

It's good I like it, would definitly recommend it, though haven't tried a whole lot of others. There is also a Statpress regular which is very popular in the Wordpress add on section (like top 10) which gets good ratings.

    Cheers,

The thing I like about Statpress over something like Statcounter is it tracks spiders and visitors that don't have JS enabled. I guess it's pretty acurate, no way to really test though?

In my humble opinion Google Analytical is probably the best and most widely accepted. I'm sure there are plenty of people who might disagree.

This is working much better! I knew I was getting more traffic than it was telling me.

GA sucks for me. I do not get an accurate reading.

Update: I've since added the Statpress plugin and I love it! WOW! I really like the that it shows the spiders crawling and the page visits. The spiders LOVE my site. I have more spiders visiting than humans. :D I wrote a blog post yesterday and hours later, it was indexed in Google. I am encouraged. :)

Did you change themes in Feb. and forgot to add google analytics tracking code in the footer?

No I didn't. I do have some sites where it works well, but for most...it's a bust.

While interested in getting stats, don't forget site optimization to build up those stats of visitors. The WordPress plug in - Platinum SEO is great coz it also manages 301 redirects.
