this is pretty sad and is common in places like Jordan and other islamic states http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/090321/world/jordan_honour_killing
Actually thast quite surprising, because on the contrary, jordan has been one of the most moderate of the arab states in the middle east (with lebanon being the most liberal). Im very sure that this is a very isolated case from all my dealings and friendships with jordanian people and the jordanian culture which is very similar to the lebanese culture.
I read the article, and the last paragraph says- It sounds like the government has a level of tolerance for honor killings, because they are suggesting wives may be more likely to commit adultery unless they are threatened with beatings and murder?
Rebecca, you quoted it as saying Parliament was blocking it because it would lead to more adultery. Quote: But attempts to introduce harsher sentences have been blocked in Jordan's parliament, where the predominantly conservative Bedouin legislators argue that tougher penalties would lead to adultery. This has been talked about before, and it really is not as widespread as it used to be.
I'm sorry, I don't understand your point. I said, "It sounds like the government has a level of tolerance for honor killings, because they are suggesting wives may be more likely to commit adultery unless they are threatened with beatings and murder?" Isn't that what the quote says to you?
