Due to the nature of your blog, you would, maybe, be able to find a pet-affilate website/company which will allow you to sell products on your web blog via affilate marketing and earn extra income, all niches are value if you can get traffic to them which is targered and good content on there. :) Good luck with your web blog.

you could add something of value like a directory of pet shops to make it worthwhile for people to visit your site

Agreed, good content is the key to success of a blog.

But do you think, people will mind if I promote affilitate products in the blog? or there are some code of ethics to follow, when promoting affiliate products over blog?

But I want to focus over blogger platform for now. While directories will require some separate hosting and directory-software purchase/enhancement, right?

BTW, I think managing directory will become another project, my focus on blog would distract.

The only stuff I watch in relations to pet is that site affiliated with yahoo since they appear on yahoo often.

"Kawaii" or something others. Where you can watch videos of very cute little pets and puppies and kittens doing weird or funny stuff etc. The show is very entertaining. To be honest that is what is quite popular. You need some unique angle on your pet blog if you are going to do it.

I would suggest categories that have interesting but obscure meanings and it will do well in the search engines as well.

    Example could be:

Puppy's First Love ('puppy' can be substituted with any pet name. Imagine how cute would it be to have pictures of your puppy or kitten curled into a little ball next to another pet or even in his/her owner's arms or things like that. You can ask people to submit their own pictures and each month the winning picture will receive a small prize? Just think creatively)

Pet Count (Could be a category related to pictures of how many pets a person has. Just an idea)

Puppydom (or 'Kittydom' a category dedicated to stories about the pets. They can be cute, funny and if you don't like to write, you can find lots of authors online that will be more than happy to let you share their story on the blog if you got their permission.

Just be different when creating your categories and things like that. The more creative and outstanding your blog is, the better it will do. People are quite bored with the same old blogs that have similar boring designs etc. Make it fun and you will attract a lot of attention.

Cater to parents with kids as well. Let parents know how they can help their kids look after the pets responsibly and even offer free coloring books that parents can print out for their children as an activity and you are well on your way to getting the right idea.

There are tons of people that blog about cats, horses etc. You just need to be different and then combine it with offline advertising in your local community and you will do really well.

I would believe blogging about a specific animal would be better, for example cats, you could hit the niche of "lol cats"

I'd say there is every chance that pet blogging could work financially and traffic wise.

Pets are huge business money wise, with insurance, accessories etc. People pay silly money on their pets and targetting some of the marketshare is not a bad idea at all.

As for what sub-niche? That would take research, but the pet niche certainly has strong financial and traffic potential in my opinion.

Although pet niche used to be high paying, it is no longer these days. You can't entirely depend on the adsense earnings from pet niche unless your traffic is terrific and targeted. Instead, supplement the adsense earnings with pet related affiliates.
