I run a technology blog based on wordpress. I am preparing at the moment linking strategy for my blog. Ive read sevearal articles,
blogs to gather as much info as I can and I am confused.
I know that natural linking its a best and optimal way of getting links. But what best method of getting links for me as the blog owner ? Ive read that it could be dangerous to have many unnatural links. So what is safe and best method ? Only few links from directories ? few from forums, few from articles directories and posting interesting articles to social media ? One link per day ?

In other words Whats the best longterm linking strategy for a blog ?

Thank you in advance for help.

write good posts and link to other sites as a reference.
Then make sure you visit their site via that link.

if you're content is really good they might mention you or link back.

    It is all about community

There is no "best long term linking strategy" that applies to all blogs. Just do what your best comptetitors do...Check backlinks of your rivals. Try to get exactly same backlinks. Do not reinvent the wheel. Find out what works for your rivals and do the same.

If you really want your backlinks to give your blog some great boosts in the search engines you need to get links from all kinds of sources. Everything from forums to blog commenting, articles, related blogs, and so on.

Having links from sites that have related content will do a lot for you too, but do not underestimate the power of a high PR back link. A single backlink from a PR7 site will do more than hundreds of links from cheesey sites that act as link farms, so my point..... focus on quality one way links.

One wonderful place for you to get backlinks from would be webmaster, software, and graphic design forums. Think software users like Adobe, etc. These sites often have high page rank and will allow you to put a link to your site in your sig file. As surfin4dough said getting just one link from a pr7 site (pr5 and pr6 are also very good) with high authority will boost your own site's google page rank over time and give you a lot of firepower in the index.

Another important tip is to get links using different keywords as anchor text - google frowns on a site if it gets thousands of backlinks using the same exact anchor text. Also be sure to link to different pages of your blog, not just the main page. This is very important. You want to start getting link juice throughout your site, not just to its home page.

Over time it's good to build a mixture of links from places, avoid buying paid links as these are getting penalized lately by Google, and dont' be afraid to get links from some "off topic" sites too - this can make your linking appear much more organic to the engines which will help you.

Some of the advice in this thread has helped me strategize quite a bit. I've been blog commenting quite a bit, and getting on some high PR sites, but never thought of checking my competitors. The social bookmarking of every post is a good one as well.

Since people already talked about incoming links I jut want to point out that internal linking is just as important, if not more so that external links. The way that your posts interlink is very importnat. Try linking to relevant posts in your blog. Virtual Silo (Google it) does it automatically unfortunately its not free

This method can skyrocket you in MSN. It seems that they have not yet "caught on to it." Google on the other hand will definitely pass on some link juice but not as much since they've figured out the concept.

Contact other blogs in your designated technology niche and ask them to trade links. Make sure they are decent quality sites with high PR though.
