Heh, one could only hope ;)

I agree, as sad as that is...

Though, it's up to the buyers to start turning things around. There will always be sellers peddling their crappy wares, so it's up to the people buying those wares to demand quality.

In the end it may cost a little more, but people must understand that they ARE getting just what they pay for.

Most of my posts are in the ODP/DMOZ board, and I can see someone not wanting links there, as the scope of that board here is rather limited. I'd rather see someone pushing me aside for someone that posts more in Design & Development for a link that is related to them, as I don't post much in that section. Though, from the looks of things, they would rather just go with the person that posts in General Chat 15 times a day...

Personally, when I am in general chat, I don't look at sig links for SEO, directories, or the like, but I may find myself clicking on a link for something that would appeal to me in that forum... like a video link, or something on a personal level. Likewise, when I am up in the Search Engine section, I'm more inclined to click into a link concerning Google or even Yahoo... as that is where my mind is.

Bots I guess don't care as much, as they will follow anything, but then, bot traffic is indirect, human clicks are direct.

Yeh, I'm kind of in the same thing. When some guy's posts catch my attention, I tend to click & check out what their signatures links have.

Very nice post. I actually feel I am the ideal guy to buy sigs from as I post quality informative posts in many forums. I post lots a day, have a large amount of posts and good rep and itrader. Yet I am totally unable to sell them at even a low price of $40 or $50. I used to get 1 cent per post.

Just to add something to the list.

Before buying a sig link on a forum make sure that sig links aren't slapped with a nofollow tag.

Also, by being a former buyer of sig links I can assure you that you shouldn't expect much traffic from them.

    Regards, George

I think your arguments are valid in the case where the buyer is buying for traffic, as opposed to just link volume. For example, here on DP, if I had a service that was geared towards webmasters, a high reputation poster who has many quality posts would obviously better, and worth more than the sig links of someone hitting up every single thread in the sales system for 'review copies'.

However, if you are buying links purely to boost link count to get indexed faster, or boost SERPS slightly, then cheaper bulk links are better.

Like gunners points out, Registration date *could* be one factor to add to that list. Those who have been here just a short time with high post count might be simply going for posting as much as possible (although this can be figured out by checking what kind of posts these guys have been made - although who has time to do that ;))

Less then an hour... though I did not time myself.

However, I've been pondering it for days.

Registration date would have been a good thing to add. Sadly, I missed the cut off for edit time :(

Thanks for the idea though, if I revise the thing, I'll certainly add that to the list.

People generally don't buy links for purposes other than searh engines, at least not that I've ever seen.
To a search engine, it doesn't matter whos' post it's in, the link is a link & it's all the same page.

So realisticly, you're doing all the work by posting these huge keyworded posts, and the undercutters are making all the money by piggybacking on your threads.

If I was smart I'd figure out a way to put all the pieces together and profit from the entire thread.

    Yeah, I noticed :p

I also noticed that you do not have an avatar. The points in the first post of this thread also would apply to avatar sales. In fact, as Avatar sales are specifically for human recognition, the points in this thread are doubly true.

So go on, get to selling that prime ad real estate ;)

Hmmm, you got the first post on the second page...very suspicious...:D

    Nice post, rep added.

Don't forget to consider the seller's length of time on the forums (newbies, even with a high post count, may get banned, cut and run, or taper off posting significantly) and if they plan to continue posting at an X per day average.

When buying sig links, does it apply to new posts only or if the person has a few thousand posts - do those count?
