Hi, My websites get 85% of visitors from India, but I have them optimized for google.com and my server is also in US. Do you think I'd benefit more by optimising for google.co.in and hosting website on an Indian server?
I needed to know if having an Indian server for a site which gets most visitors from India benefit more?
Everything has its added value. Having site hosted in India will improve your rankings (a little) and user experience (loading time). Holding domain in local DNS will also improve user experience (not sure about SEO). Geo-Targetting in webmaster tools also improves SEO. Try always thinking about users 1st;-)
Forget the hosting location.. better check for the band width and other feutures for fast browsing.. Otherwise for local traffic or international.. doesn't have any role on hosting
If you're traffic is Indian, then host in India. You'll do better in Google.in when people tick the "pages from India" box if you have Indian based hosting.

Use .in domain where possible and if you are using .com, make sure your registrant details are in india.

The serve is direct affect the connection and loading. If both of them is ok for you, then no need to care where the serve from

Ive found good ranking and better targetted traffic from using hosting in the UK and a .co.uk to target a UK audience. Im actually shocked by the ranking and how soon it is. Ranking on google.co.uk on first page for very targetted keywords. Just found im ranking in 10th position for a keyword in yahoo uk that has over 90 million results. This is a new site, not updated, no pr, only established within the last 2 months. I definately suggest country specific hosting.
