A unique dedicated ip is your best option. That way you aren't sharing an ip with other websites that you may or may not have control over. Those other websites could end up harming your own website's seo if they are particularly spammy or black hat.

When we think about back linking, an idea comes to mind of tricking search engines by creating websites yourself and linking them back to your main website. This is futile, as they are all hosted on the same C Class IPs.Search engines don't prefer back links from the same IP addresses.

So the dedicated IP is better then C class IP right?

I am asking this coz i have many sites and i want to link exchange with my sites. but my all sites are in Same IP right now so if i link exchange with my sites now, it will not count a good Value. So i want to put my Sites in Different IPs.

But still I cant decide That Dedicated IP or C class IP is good for this reason.

    Any suggestion appreciate.

    Thanks :)

    I dont understand your question.

Dedicated means that is does not change.

While on the other hand, Class C IP address refers to a range of addresses.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classful_network

The class C ip range starts at IP address 192.0.0.0 and goes through 223.255.255.255.
The class B ip range starts at IP address 128.0.0.0 and goes through 191.255.255.255
The class A ip range starts at IP address 0.0.0.0 and goes through 127.255.255.255

You can have a class C ip address, and it can be dedicated. Dedicated has nothing to do with what range its in.

For your purpose of linking to different sites that you own, the best choice SEO-wise is different C-block addresses for your sites. Dedicated or not does not matter. C blocks means the first 3 blocks of numbers in the IP address should be different. like 42.234.554.xxx and 60.411.872.yyy.

Ok In the Hostgator Dedicated IP price is $2 and the C Class IP price is $4.35 - $7 (Depend How many IPs u will buy)

So why the dedicated IPs price is low? I think dedicated IP means That IP is only for me and no body will use That IP right? and C Class IP is shared IP. So why C class IP price is Higher then dedicated IP?

Not in only Hostgator, Almost every where i see the C class IP price is higher then Dedicated IP. Is there is any benefit to use C class IP?

Sorry for so many doubt and questions, Actually I am not clear about this.

    Thanks advance.
    Kayes.

Seprate C class IP is very hard to get and difficult to manage, thats why its more costly. If you know how to build a network of themed sites, separate C class is best for you. You can search on google for more on linking systems used to create highly effective network. another good read is "revenge of mini net"

As others have pointed out, what you should be asking is "Is it better to have a dedicated IP or a shared IP?" The "class" of the IP address has to do with how many hosts/machines can exist in a single network's IP range.

Dedicated is best IMO. $2 extra per month for a dedicated IP is worth the peace of mind.

When you share an IP with other random sites being hosted with the same web host, sometimes those other sites will get caught doing black hat things... For example, maybe some blackhat SEO has 50 web sites on that same IP as yours all linking together to create a link exchange / link farm. If they get caught, Google might penalize the entire IP thinking all of the sites there are possibly owned by the same blackhat SEO. So your site will get penalized... kind of "guilt by association". Of course, all you have to do is submit a reconsideration request and wait for Google to review your site at which time they will lift the penalty (assuming they don't find anything on YOUR site that violates their webmaster guidelines). But this can sometimes take weeks. In the meantime, you're site is getting no traffic.

Unless you are dirt poor and can't afford another $2 per month, I would get the dedicated IP.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. Blogger blogs hosted by Google are shared with multiple sites on the same IP address. If what you#re saying is true (it's damaging) why does Google do this?

In my experience some blogger blogs feature high in th SE? I have a blog with Google and the IP is sghared with what appears to be hundreds of other sites but everything seems OK. Surely Google wouldn't allow this as an option if it was useless and damaging?
