Do you help beggars?

If I would to help them, it was only with some food but not money.

Long back, I along with my brother and our uncle (income tax consultant) were in a taxi in Bombay (Mumbai), waiting at the traffic signal when my brother gave Rs. 1 coin to a beggar. And just imagine, the beggar gave a bad word in return. Means, he was not satisfied with Rs. 1.

90% of the beggars are in fact people who do not want to work or put any efforts. They want free or easy money. And today, begging is a business. People purposely cut the hands or legs of the kids to make them beg. If public does not feels pity on someone, they will not help them either. So they make the kids handicapped and then make them beg while some people lease their kids on a rental so that beggar find its easy to gain public's attention and sympathy.

An old saying "You give man food to eat and he will eat the whole day. You teach man how to cook and he will eat forever".

 

begging is a disease and if it is not cured it spreads

Just promise yourself that you will not beg even if you get killed

no hard feelings

Just telling how i keep myself away from thought of begging

I felt very happy whenever I helped to a begger.

 

It depend on the situation .
On occassion, I will give them some little money.

 

I just help those! which are physically or mentally disable! otherwise i hate orthodox beggars

 

I do! I feel pity for some of these beggars...really!

 

Do you think it is karma for someone to be a beggar?
Do you think it is god's punishment to him/her?
By helping him, do you think you are against to god's will?
Should you be punish by that?

I don't believe in god or karma but would like to hear your answer.

and no, i will never give money to beggars. Helping them survive is just prolonging their suffering

I refuse to give them money - too often I believe it will go to alcohol or cigarettes. I do however volunteer my time for various causes that include homeless shelters.

 

I donate to charities but I usually do not give to beggars because most look like there healthy enough to get a job.

I dont give them any money. I offered to go up to Burger King and buy a guy a burger once and he said that he doesn't want a burger, he wants money instead.

Another guy needed a quarter for a phone call... I offered my cell phone and he didn't want to use it.

I really hate seeing people beg for money with a cigarette in their hand. If they can afford to buy a pack of cigarettes, then they have enough money to buy a can of soup.

 

When they get right in my face asking for money.. no.

 

I don't help beggars because I know that most of them are just acting. Its always good to help people who are really in need and whom you know would not misuse the money.

 

I help them because it could be me that could be homeless and asking for help

 

I only help those beggars , who are handicaped and are unable to work .

 

I only help those old beggars and those handicapped ones too..

 

Well i suppose if they stink enough...

(true story) In PHX area camelback is the slums (poor district) one time i was driving on that street and about 1 block away i smelled a horrible stench (windows where rolled up) and when i got to the stop light i realized why... It was a bum that must not have showered in (months) and the smell was beyond horrible so i rolled down my window (just a Hair) and handed him $20 bucks and told him to get a room somewhere and take a shower as the smell was just so bad. (worse then a dead body or skunk)
