I'm not interpreting your statement about a "serps update" (sic), vandermar - I am quoting you.

So what exactly DID you mean when you said that?

Sorry. I meant an update in the serps, or a change of who is ranking for what. I apologize if you thought that I meant to imply that it was some special occasion, or that it only happened on a certain frequency, or if you in any way confused it with what used to be known as the Google Dance.

I didn't mean to confuse you at all, and I will try really hard to not do it again in the future. However, I am human, and it may indeed happen from time to time. So please, do accept my apology.

mvandemar - my comment on "negatively effecting everyone" was purely from a "visual" perspective. So in other words what happens if the visual update shows PRs dropping? Will that make people party and be happy? You would fair much better in this community if you actually contributed something of value instead of continuosly generalizing information, getting off your high horse, and stop rambling on about useless issues.

PageRank is a scale. It is a comparison of pages against other pages. The one with the most weight is a 10 and the one with the least weight is a zero (well, slightly above if it's even in the index at all). All others are ranked accordingly.

You may be right. Can you show me some of your useful posts so I may learn?

And that was important in what way? Are you saying that there is some magical mystical means that everyone everyone can suddenly not be important? I mean, what does what you just posted have to do with what I, or you for that matter, said?

Anyone can do a search and quote something someone else said. Just because similar words were used earlier in the discussion does not mean that the 2 have anything to do with each other.

So again, how can an update negatively affect everyone?

LOL - I don't mind if people disagree with me, but pleaseeeee make your arguements of some value. I wasn't disagreeing with you - I just thought that your post was useless and unrealistic.

WTF? "Who cares about fixing just do this update everyone get happy and are in the party phase. During that try and fix it."

Anyone can sit here and make general statements just like you do.

"PageRank is a scale. It is a comparison of pages against other pages."

    Give me a break!

Then you should practice what you preach and instead of babbling on and generalizing information you should invest some time to search and read!!

I've already addressed this ... search and read!

If you don't gain more links over time, your PR wil decrease.

How 'bout that for a statement?

Reason: there will be more and more pages added to the index, so the PR is spread amongst more and more pages, hence less PR for your pages.

Actions: none, don't even think about PR, think about getting links with your desired anchors in order to rank well.

Ok, lecab, we're done arguing. I mean, continue if you like, but don't expect a response. As far as I can tell, you actually don't know what you're talking about.

    Look at what tfbpa posted:

While I disagree with the last line of his post (the one I didn't quote), his post shows a basic understanding of what we were talking about. If you honestly can't see the difference between the crap you were posting, and the (true) information he just posted, then there is no point in going on.

My statements were not general, they were specific and to the point.

Say you have 10 objects, all that weigh differently, from 1 to 10 pounds, and you line them up from the lightest to the heaviest. It doesn't matter what they weigh, only the order they are in line.

Now, take away 1 pound from every object. How many objects are you left with, and in what order?

Seriously, mvandermar, just get over yourself and you'll find the forums here a lot more pleasant. You've blown in here like you're some kind of expert who's going to educate the rest of us poor newbies about the world of search. I don't know if that worked for you anywhere else but really it just is not going to work here.

It's not just arrogant and condescending; it's laughable.

Coming from you means absolutely nothing to me.

There are many variables to PR, links are the basis for PR. Just like my quote from Google. In general terms I agree with him.

    WTF?

"PageRank is a scale. It is a comparison of pages against other pages."

    VS

"PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query."

Well obviously the weight would matter if you want to line them up correctly wouldn't it?

    Then they undanced.
