If you have Wordpress, there are plugins that do it for you.

Or you can do it manually. For example, log into Google Webmaster Tools, go to "sitemaps" and submit your sitemap.

you dont have to submit your sitemap to search engines. search engines will crawl your sitemap anyways when they visit your site. just make sure you have link to your sitemap from homepage atleast. instead of spending time submitting your sitemap, spend that on link building which will make more sense

I assume that you are talking about how to submit your sitemap.xml, not the visible .html sitemap on your website.

Open a free account at Google Webmaster Tools, Yahoo! Site Explorer, and at http://webmaster.live.com/webmaster for MSN. Follow the instructions.

A good, free sitemap generator for websites less than 500 pages can be found at xml-sitemaps.com

sitemaps are only needed when you have a site where is it badly constructed and difficult to crawl, but then you have other problems to fix before you submit a sitemap... spiders will crawl your site naturally...

Note a sitemap can hurt your site more than it helps it when you have subdomains and google links them up and you wil;l fall in page rankings

Submitting your sitemap isn't necessary. Search engine robots will eventually crawl it.

yes. Search engine robots will automatically crawl it if you have unique content.

Yes, I agree with the above suggestion... you should also mention xml sitemap in rodot.txt file.
