From the first day I joined Adsense I was 100% serious about making a living from it. After 6 months I was making $4000+/month because I had planned everything very carefully. Today, one year after I started I'm actually making less, about $3000/month, because I have decided to go for multiple streams of income such as affiliate, rather than being too dependant on Adsense alone. To be completely honest, I have zero interest in the subjects of my sites! I never let my personal interests decide what my sites should be about. For me it's strictly strategic business. I work 8-12 hours a day on making websites about totally boring subjects, but subjects that I know interest others and that generate money. I knew right from the start that I had to do this to make serious money. So unlike what everyone else says here, if you want to make serious money, be smart and don't follow your heart.
It's good advice but the problem is it can be difficult writing about subjects you are not passionate about or if you are clueless about the topic. Do you outsource all the content?
That's my biggest fear and the main reason I went for multiple income streams. I'm following the Adsense TOS and my SEO is white hat, but that's surely no guarantee for not being banned. I write all content myself. If I don't have a clue what I'm talking about it shows very clearly, so it's important to do careful research in advance. Content is the toughest part IMHO, especially since I'm aiming for quality articles rather than MFA nonsense.
If I make site about subjects I'm not passionate about I lose interest in them and I neglect them. But hey, that's just me .
No one ever gives out their niches. If they did and it makes decent money everyone and their mother would throw up 50 sites to capitalize and that would drive the market down.
Nice tip. Just two weeks ago, I was enjoying 15K+ page impressions/ day and averaging $10. But then I decided to do another blog, thinking my earnings will extend. I then linked my new blog to my old one. All of sudden, I do not get new traffic from search engines from my old blog.
Well theres truth in the OP's post, what ive found is it depends on the subject, theres one that i write about and im not interested in the subject but its a bit easier to write about than another niche site that i have which is not only terribly boring but a bit more difficult for me to write about. In most cases il take a decent paying, not so exciting option, over doing something that i love but pays terribly.
Well, if you don't know anything about the subject, educate yourself. There are most likely hundreds of articles on the internet based on the subject you go for. Just hit the keyboard once you feel that you know what you're talking about.
And ya know, doing the planning part the OP mentioned you should go see what articles already exist right? So, if you don't know the topic at hand, you are doing double research in a way.
um, you *should* research what articles exist already is the sense it makes. So if you don't know the topic, the research has two purposes( find out what's out there and self education).
It questions me why people have been working for years on some personal interest crap that just brings coffee money... when they could make a great living on another subject with the same amount of work. Can you tell me your story?
Im in the air on this. Most of my mini sites are of articles that I paid to have professionally written, I have no interest in the topic and they essentially sit their and earn. But the way I make the best money is from my sports and business blogs. I am able to write and write because it interest me, its 100% unique and its free. I would say that you can be more successful writing an origami (just threw that out there) blog and fully committing yourself to it. Granted you might not get the $5 clicks like we do for credit and loan stuff, but so what. You will be more committed to building a brand because it is something that you are passionate about. Look at Gary Vaynerchuk the reason he is so successful is 100% due to the fact that he is passionate about everything that he does. Dont let the money blind you, their is always an audience willing to read and always an advertiser willing to advertise.
