Lost links

The other day I tested to see how many links now link to one of my main sites and found that instead of going up, which is what I had expected as I have been doing a lot of link submissions they actually went down.

Now this is not uncommon. Some sites that link to mine may have been removed from existence, but the links to my site went from over 1400 to just over 300.

    Why is this?

    Thanks

    James

James, where did you check your backlinks ? is it from your Awstat program or from using some third party service provider or from Google link operator ?

If you checked links in Google Webmasters then the number shown will be unlikely to be your real number of backlinks, e.g. Google Webmasters shows 1500 less links for my main site than the site really has.

It really depends on the backlinks analyzing tool your currently using...
However, such a drop is normal and could happen because of one single site wide link lose ;)
Keep on building more backlinks, it's an on-going process for every webmaster.

    I Guys

I use link popularity check. But am going to use backlinkwatch.com from now on.

Pop check does not tell me where the links are from so I dont have any idea on the links that I have lost.

I have been using Digi Xmas to build links but dont know if this has been a waste of time now as I have submited to over a thousand sites over a month and lost links instead of building them.

    Thanks for the help.

    James
