I'm wondering if Press Release helps when it comes to generating real traffics to your website. Anyone who've try using that method can share their experience here? Better if you can let me know (if they're good) who do you used for press release writing/distribution service...

PRESS RELEASES have worked well for me in the past, to get backlinks and traffic. However, they are time consuming since there are so many rules in writing them. Rules you have to follow. I rather just write articles and submit them to article directories, which works juts as fine for me.

Yeah i agree submitting to article directories is as effective and less time consuming as there are less 'rules' to follow

Press releases can be much more effective than basic article marketing actually. That's because, if done right, you have the potential of getting exposure and links on not only relevant websites but very popular ones (think niche media sites, newspaper sites, magazine sites, etc.). For example, my clients have gotten links from USAtoday's site, BusinessWeek's site, etc. You won't get those from article marketing (or the viewers for that matter), and they're infinitely more valuable (why those rules are worth paying attention to, and why it's generally a good idea to hire professionals who already understand those rules up front).

If you want to learn more about trying them yourself, I have a free e-book on the subject available here (and while I'm solely a PR / business writer now, I used to run a full-service online PR firm, so I do know what I'm talking about in that e-book). ;)

I use webwire.com when I have a brand new site I want indexing quickly, it cost's around $20 but I get traffic straight away and indexed in Google the same day. I know there are lots of other methods to get indexed but time v cost ratio, press release's win hands down.

Press releases in our experience have been very helpful.

We used press releases in the early stages of one our sites and we made more sales than any other day the day the press release went live. We used prweb.com.

Did you get your PRs rejected a lot? Thats my problem....there s too much time wasted in the "back and forth" with the PR service. Any strategies you used?

    BTW
    thanks for sharing

If your releases are being rejected, you're doing something wrong. There should be little to no back and forth with any distribution service. It probably means you're making one or more of the following mistakes:

    - You're not writing it in the third person.
    - It's directly promotional instead of sharing legitimate news or timely authority content.
    - You're making marketing / advertising claims in the release (like saying something will "change your life" or claiming to be the best at something).
    - You're essentially spamming the service with a lot of links (or including something like a referral link which is never appropriate).
    - You're writing about something forbidden with that service (many won't accept adult, gambling, or even some types of pharmaceutical releases).

Otherwise, try posting a rejected version of one of your releases here publicly, and I'll offer a few more specific comments for everyone's benefit.

A press release used for SEO purposes does nothing really but if you write a legit press release when you have news that will actually be picked up it could result in many links, interviews, and off-line press.

I love press releases. We try to think of new good excuses to send them out all the time... they're by the far one of the best (and low price) marketing tools around if you've got a product worth telling the world about.

Speaking as someone who used to work in a busy newspaper office I can definately recommend submitting a press release to your local newspaper - many times I saw the editorial dept looking for material to fill the weekly editions and often press releases were used for this purpose.

i see people writing stupid press releases for products they're trying to sell for their CPA ad networks. so do companies even look at the places we submit to since they are crowded with junk?

Some do, sure. But that depends on what sites you're submitting to. While most of the major media pickups my clients have gotten were through manual pitching, a few have come from paid online distribution sites. Top blogs and online-only magazines also often check some of the bigger sites or the news engine results they'll get you listed in.
