Buy a link from a page with higher pagerank

You will have to wait 3-6 months to see the pagerank bar change.

Quality link exchange (high PR links related to the website category). It should give you a nice PR.

If you would have a PR8 site would link to a PR1-2?

That's why link exchange isn't fair.

Could be fair. A lot of PR1-2 sites gets a ton more traffic then some PR8 sites. Why wouldnt the PR8 site want more traffic? Why would the PR1,2 site want to do a link exchange with a PR8 site that wont send them any traffic or make them any more money?

buying links is a waste of time, unless you can buy alot. I bought a PR7 link and it never showed up on the serps for over 8 months. Dropped that link as it also never did nothing for my ranking either, all it did was cost me money. Over the last 3 years my site has been ranked from a PR4 to a high of PR6 and my ranking on the search engines may have fluctuated a tiny bit, example would be that my site went from number 3 to number 4 on GOOGLE so really what is the importance.

I show hundreds of links on GOOGLE actually over 300 and I see sites that only show 20 recieving a PR5, little rediculus I think and this really does not say much for the GOOGLE.

So basically what I am saying is if you rank well be happy!

Here is the REAL advise. Google is looking for content and links that are related to that content. These rules will never change.

Page rank is nothing to do with the content or how the links are related to the site. PR is about the number of links and the PR of the incoming links.

Nope, just 1 link - from a high PR site, as the poster before you said.

    <sigh> I'll say it again

1 backlink from a high pagerank site, the number of backlinks don't make any differnce.

It has been briefly mentioned a couple of times, but bares repeating. The best way to build up a really good PR and maintain that PR is to create really compelling unique content that other people find useful/valuable enough to link to said content from their own websites and when commenting in forums like this.

A really good article can generate all kinds of links from really suprising places. Just today I found a link to one of my articles from a page on the U.S. Center for Disease Control website (http://www.cdc.gov). Just think how Google would rank such a link. Great content will get you great links from great sites that you could not get links from via any other means and best of all you don't have to pay for those links.

There is no shortcut to success and in the long run, great unique content will trump all other means of building up PR and website traffic. In fact all other means of building up traffic and PR will not be successful without great content.

you need incoming links and lots of them. start with lower pr sites first and work your way up. You are more likely going to get links form pr8 sites if you are a pr5

Having good content is critical. Also, don't forget about word-of-mouth and non-internet ways of increasing page rank. If your page is associated with a business or organization, promote the website off-line also. You never know...maybe one of your clients will link to your site based on off-line info.
