Matt has said something in his blog about what happened on the 27th: "I believe any changes on the 27th were refreshing data used by an existing algorithm" He made it in a comment in the "Reminder - Check Your Sites" post. Can anyone help me understand what this means? He makes it sound like nothing has happened out of the ordinary, yet my site has tanked in the rankings and so have many others.
I still show cached pages from Jun 15, 2005 on a site, must not have rolled results back before that at least.
Shit I thought that was just me seeing things, I was wondering what was happening. Is this common with the 27th issue?
If you had a drink for every Google 'make us jump through hoops hicups' you would be an alcoholic in no time.
I donno what to say, but this all Gooooogle stuff produced less money. 1.people used to buy links, now after G. said that they filter those links... - less_revenue_because_of_this --bad 2. 20K pages were dropped from my 100K, --> 20-30% off from my adsense. 3. Visitors number dropped with 10-15%. that means less potential customers. Overall? I need a drink, too. A strong one.
webfreak80 your not alone and I dont mean in the sense of having a strong drink. I am currently working along side a small company who is also starting to feel the pain from the loss of traffic because of the spam/trash that has taken over on the Google results and its not a nice situation for them - hopefully its just a matter of sitting it out and hoping everything will return......I'll down my pint and hold my breath.
Yeah, that is frustrating. However, sometimes I'm asking myself what's next? What chances (luck?) has a neewbie? we know a bit about web design, seo, link strategies, directories...(yada yada) but what about a newbie? It is obvious that he/she will not create something like a magnet over night so everyone will link to his/she's website. Will anybody with PR 6-7-8 link to him when that webmaster knows that for a link smb. would give hundreds? I don't think so. Would you?
I probably wouldnt link to a noobie site but there again if its relevant and would be a great resource for my visitors then I would consider it. When it comes to Google we have to look at it as a long term business rather than get up the ranks quick and start making money. Google looks at the age of a site (so we are supposed to believe) which would suggest they prefer us to be in it for the long haul. There again if we want to have a business we really need to consider long term rather than short even if Google wasnt in the picture. As the saying goes 'Rome wasnt built in a day'.
Yes, it seems as if Google is trying to do a better job of filtering dynamically created doorway pages. examples: widgets is dothan, alabama widgets is every town, every state I've been on both sides of the fence on this sort of thing. What is really bad is when there really is a widgets dealer in Dothan Alabama, but you can't find them, because there is a ton of spam. On the other hand, there are some sites that were started pre-2000 that are authorities that really don't deserve to be there anymore, or really aren't earning their right to be there anymore, so newer and better sites are forced to do more such as create more dynamic content just to survive. It's tricky business, with no clear rules.
