My little blog was recently DMOZ listed, which I guess is pretty neat. BUT does it really mean anything in the 21st century? Other than doing the "my blog is on DMOZ" dance are there any benefits I'm missing?
Not every site is in DMOZ so yes it does matter to some extent. But there are many more valuable resources that can help your competitor to outrank you. So keep working on your site(s).
Congratulations Whether or not it still means something, there's people who are practically dying to finally get into there with their sites
This listing should help your search engine rankings considerably. The dmoz directory gets syndicated on many other directories. So you are getting several quality links. Links like these are definitely one piece of the puzzle. Now just keep working at getting more and more links. In time you should be able to rank well for almost any pinball related search term.
Put it this way. I have an entertainment blog I'm no longer using. When I first published it I updated it daily for a few months, submitted it to DMOZ, got it accepted. Since then I erased the site completely and just left a pretty black home page up with zero info on it. It has remained this way for over two years. The site STILL holds a page rank of 2 even though I did nothing for it for two years. All because of that DMOZ link because I don't really have any other links for it. So even though it's now an empty site with ZERO content on it and it hasn't been updated in two years, and it doesnt have any backlinks except DMOZ, it still has the PR2. I think DMOZ must still be pretty powerful! And sometimes you have better luck getting in if you ARE doing a smaller, fan type of blog vs. a big business blog. That's my experience anyway. Dan
Cheers guys. I guess being in a very small niche (and I think the only active blog about it) made it easier to get listed - plus of course it's a subject I'm interested in. I'm sure I've submitted other sites to DMOZ over the years (without success), but the blog went up very quickly. Google seems keen on blogs and mine is already turning up for some keywords, but I didn't know if google still gave DMOZ much weighting.
Yes it dose, if you can get your website reviewed and listed in high categories or simply sub categories with high PR and low number of sites which is really hard to achieve.. But being listed in DMOZ is always good

Apparently it may be easier to get approved to dmoz now. I haven't tried recently, but in another thread someone claimed that during the last year approval rates have improved. Of course, certain categories might just have more reliable editors.
Not really, I think it depends on the category editor. I have applied by Education in the Philippines forum (eduphil.org) to DMOZ more than nine months ago, and we will be celebrating our first anniversary this Sunday, but we are still not in DMOZ. (Category: Philippine education)
Congrats, that will be a couple of good links for sure, but don't forget to continue working on your site
Yes, it does. Once the dmoz directory clones start to update their database, that should translate to higher number of backlinks and higher serp ranking.
i've never had a problem getting normal sites listed in dmoz, but not tried a blog as yet. Might give it a go..
