Hi I've been reading up on affiliate programs and such, and I'm wondering... how does one go about getting affiliates? Is it strictly the payout? I've checked into affiliate marketing, but it seems that all the affiliate sites just want to sell you some package. I would just like some input on this from some of you webmasters that sign up for affiliate programs. thanks
You might be interested in Shawn Collin's book "Successful Affiliate Marketing for Merchants" which is a little old but has all of the basics. You can get it at amazon.
A big factor in choosing which affiliate programs to sign up for is the payout as you have mentioned. However in my opinion there are a few other factors as well: 1. Cookie Life - After the referral how long does the referrer get credit. Obviously the longer the cookie the better change your affiliates have of making a sale. They say visitors usually visit your site 3 times on average before making a purchase. 2. Quality of Product - Obviously if your product is spammy then other webmasters are going to be unwilling to promote it. Good quality products are easier to sell to customers and therefore more attractive to affiliates. 3. Impressions of Your Website - The impression you give the webmaster (potential affiliate) is just as important as the impression you give your customers. If your site looks professional you're more likely to attract affiliates. 4. Payout Terms - What's the minimum payout? What are the available methods of payment? Anyway my computer is about to die on me so I better go...
I've found the best way to recruit affiliates is to find websites that you think would do well offering your product. You then approach them with knowledge you've gained about their site, and you ask them to consider being an affiliate. It's slow-going, but the quality outweighs the cost IMO.
Quality of Product and How well organized the layout of the website is. I only want to be an affiliate of products that are pretty well known and well-loved. And I love sites that have great product pages. If your page looks unprofessional or sloppy, I'm not gonna promote it.
Yeah, but question is how to get more affs??? getting on super bowl??? or run naked with tatoo on your back with your aff program?? maybe this could help
Just promote ur product and make sure webmasters know there's an affiliate program when they entire ur site. There will undoubtably be webmasters looking for be an affiliate visiting ur site and wanting to buy your product. Make sure there's an "AFFILIATE PROGRAM" link visible in ur page when they enter.
Very true - normally I check the main menu bar and then the footer for "affiliates" or something similar. If I cant find it in one of those 2 locations I'd just move on assuming they didnt provide an affiliate program.
Don't forget to tell on your affiliate signup page that how much your top affiliates are earning through your program.
I am starting a hoodia diet pill affiliate program and I plan on doing a search of every domain name out there with "hoodia" in it and then sending a post card via snail mail to their postal address promoting my affiliate program. Any thoughts on this approach?
I run the affiliate program for AmericanCell.com - we pay $35-50 per cell phone plan. We have recruited more than 275 affiliates so far and are pleased with results but want to grow our program even more. We would would like to partner with other successful affiliate programs selling electronics and gadgets of any kind. (not interested in working with adult, gambling, MLM, drugs) If you are interested in cross-promoting each other's programs please PM me. http://www.americancell.com/affiliates/index.php
I really recommend Successful Affiliate Marketing for Merchants And I also suggest you visit associateprograms.com and sign up for his newsletter (its free and he doesnt spam)
dude, think about how you gonna generate the traffic, not where to send it... you can send it to 1,000,000's of aff programs out there
Wow... thank you all for the info! Some good stuff. Questions: Is the is a big deal if the link says Partners instead of affiliates? How do you show highest paid affiliates if the affiliate program is new? And if the product is new too... then what? Thanks!
