I am so sick of answers on here such as "Why dont you build content and people will link to you" That's a bunch of CRAP and most of you should know that So there are 500+ websites out there for apartments in NYC.... and theyre all doing SEO work...... Do you really think people are going to link to some apartment site because of its great content? Yes maybe in 50 years it will finally be noticed and get some great backlinks.... while the competition is out snagging backlinks by emailing webmasters, directories, articles etc. This idea of build great content DOES NOT APPLY TO ALL NICHES For those of you making sites about Canadian pharmacies........ there's 1000's of Canadian pharmaceutical sites that are all doing SEO..... what the HELL are you thinking when you tell someone to write good content about canadian Viagra Its a bunch of CRAP Enough with that crap..... You know how you get to the top? You make a site with great content....... and then ASK people to link to you..... write articles.... do whatever......... because NO ONE is going to find your site..... Dont listen to these idiots out there with this content crap!!! Also, get some MAJOR backlinks... PR6 Authority sites... PAY FOR THEM IF YOU HAVE TO.... BECAUSE IM SURE YOUR COMPETITORS ARE!!! I havent bought any links, and dont plan to.... because im in it for the long term I think this "build great content" crap is a joke In my local Boston real estate niche im competing with 100's of sites....... some agencies have 30 SEO Optmized sites for "Lofts" "Multifamilies" "Foreclosures" etc. ...... and theyre all doing SEO work I'll be damned if im going to make a site and WAIT for someone to link to me ---- when they cant even find me!!!! My sites are all at the top from me hustling for backlinks...... in addition my site are all the best in my niche!!! No one linked to me out of "voting for me" Its a bunch of CRAP!!!!!!!
So then... what's your game plan (or the other SEOs out there) for when google catches on to your "link hustling" and all that hard work gets washed away into the sandbox? There seems to be more and more sites disappearing lately in the SERPs due to linking schemes. And I keep seeing more and more posts around the web about SEO being history shortly.
its not like that people loves useful content and informative content so they put link and it will help in website
How exactly can a search engine tell the difference between a paid link and a natural/organic link? It makes sense when the link building is blatant spam, but when you are slowly building paid links, or dropping a few links in some related forums, how is the search engine going to figure it out?
Although i agree with you on the fact that one should good link building and generating buzz when launching a new website. But if you keep writing good content regularly people will link to you eventually it wont be very fast but it will take time. I launched a website, and didnt have much cash to buy some good links, all i did was some commenting and stuff, but later go bored with that also. One thing i kept doing was writing good content day after day and after 2-3 months people start linking to my blogposts and blog. That's one way, but as you said advertising your blog/website is essential to get good returns in short amount of time.
You could have said all that in this one sentence, which says what needs to be done: (1) build great content AND (2) go out and get links to that content.
Just get some good ORIGINAL content. See what the keyword is there? Original. Find an IDEA for ORIGINAL content about nyc apartments and there you go, instant millions!
Jim I definitely think its these two twin principles that can work wonders together for a site.Focusing on just one of them will only be half the work done.
Well its the truth. Along with SEO someone finds your site, it has good content and they like it, they might link to you on their site or on webforums. If you have a site with no content and full of ads, theres no reason why someone who finds it will link to it. I'm a bit confused because you sound hypocritical and maybe you want to clarify, You write: Then you write: So you say make great content, then told people not to listen to you because you're an idiot saying make great content? So what is it? I think your confusing it all. You aren't against building great content, you are against people who say content alone will draw customers. I don't know of many people who say building great content alone is going to make a site popular. You SHOULD be building sites with good content, and you should be doing SEO, and getting people to link to you at the same time. You shouldn't just be building good content by itself and hoping out of some miracle people are going to link to you. Good content is good and one should have good content, if a site has crap content, why should people want to come back to it in the future? Yes there are 500 websites on New York City apartments, and which ones do you think people will come back to over and over and over again? The one with comprhensive good content, or one filled with adsense ads? Good content + Seo is what you're trying to say. Having good content and seo, links etc is the best bet.
I've got more sympathy with the op than a lot of the other posters in this thread. You do constantly see people on DP trotting out the 'good content' cliche as if it's the answer to all problems. It isn't. Firstly - you need to define what 'good content' is, because frankly a lot of people seem to think that copied content, or content full of errors in grammar and spelling is 'good enough'. You have to ascertain whether it's in a format that will perform well in search engines (e,g well-placed keywords, titles, headers, no duplication etc). And if you're confident that you have good content, just sitting back and waiting for everyone to discover it and link back to you is going to take An Awfully Long Time. However original it is. In the 'real world' you could open the best shop in the world in a quiet back street and if you don't tell anybody it's there, you wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get any customers.
Sounds to me like you're just frustrated. No one truly undertsands Google and it is an on going game to try and get and stay at the top of the serps. All you can do is write good quality content and if not for the search engines do it for your visitors. Would you go to a website that was full of spelling and grammar error that used the same obvious keyword phrase every other sentence? Once you have the content you need backlinks, and you should try and get them from websites similar to your field but not your competitors. Like the real estate site you said above, if I had a real estate website I would look around at local businesses in my area and see if I could find a broker, a home builder, and an inspector and call all the businesses directly and ask over the phone for a backlink.
On the other side you can have a crap site with high seo , paid advertisements etc, but if its a crap site whats the point then? A site needs good unique content in combination with good advertisement. The op's argument is slightly flawed because he's making sound like you don't need good content. You do. Along with a combination of seo, advertisement etc. In the "real world" a restaurant on main street can be in a good location and seen, but if it has crap food many people aren't going to return to it. If that back ally shop has excellent food combined with good advertisement people will come back to it over and over again. The OP is simply saying people telling people to have good content are idiots. People saying good content alone will bring customers are not smart, his argument should be, you SHOULD have good content with promotion, not relying on content alone.
I disagree with the OP about this, specially in the Real Estate niche.. Two years ago i have built a website related to real estate and developments, will to be honest with you guys it was full of quality content that is really help and a lot of people simply linked to most of the inner pages of the site... And that helped the website ranking a lot, IMHO you definitely needs to get some traffic FIRST instep for people to view your website content and consider linking to it
Hey, If you know about programming and making unique online tools, You'll achieve what you dreamed of. 50 Years? COMEON!! How old is facebook.com?? And no, Its not like myspace and hi5... It is different and it is getting what it deserves!
By saying "get good content" few people mean something like "hey, just write some stuff for your site, and then sit back and relax because your site is going to go through the promotion hell all by itself". And then again: you need to have something to promote. Which is content. Which had better be good.
Hello... Content is what you make of it... It doesn't mean you have to have (paragraphs / sentences) you could do videos, Pictures, Free Tools, ect ect then they will be more inclined to add that content to there site. (most dont use articles for fear of duplicate content) Learn to think Outside the box! thx malcolm
