Ok so everyone who talks about SEO says: SEO is a slow process. It will take 2 to 4 to 6 months to see results. If you think you know SEO and you call yourself an expert, answer this. watch-movies.net used to come up #1 for any term to do with watch movie, movies, watch movies online etc etc. The govt shut them down. Now the site got a server in netherlands got a new domain watch-movies-links.net (registered feb/2/09) its an exact copy of the orignal site (so duplicate conetnt) and within 15 days the site was back to its top ranking on google and its alexa is 5K and traffic details check at alexa. SO SEO EXPERTS EXPLAIN??? Dont say its black hat cause these guys had their site before for years it was #1 and a black hat technique that doesn't get caught by google and is not penalized is jsut a white hat technique that you dont know. So please dont use black hat as an explanation.
Simple explanation....they did a 301 redirect from the old website to the new one. Theoretically this is supposed to transfer the links, PR & rankings. The government probably just made them take down the content on their original website. They likely still owned the domain and had full control over it.
I agree...It dosen't always take that long....I saw results within a few weeks for a regional site and am moving higher and higher on the SERPs each day for a bunch of my targeted keywords. I think you can fast track things in certain situations but it depends on your target audience and competition. There may be something else in play here however.....Cheers!
Yep... Yahoo already shows the new site having 27995 inbound links from external domains. These are not 301 redirected links... The old domain does not even have DNS entries anymore (try to ping it or open in a browser) so it's impossible to 301 redirect old URLs to new site. I even checked about 15 or so of the backlinks to the new site... The source on those web sites are all pointing directly to the new site. And the domain is brand new - registered Feb 3, 2009. Looks like they have a BUNCH of blogs and movie review type sites which simply changed their old links to point to the new domain... Since they were so popular before the problems, all they probably had to do was announce they were shutting down the old domain and bringing up a new one, and most of the sites would simply fix the back link. Here is an example of a post from mid 2008 which was LONG before the new domain was even registered, and the links in this post which is actually about the old domain, is now pointing directly to the new site: seoco.co.uk/blog/2008/06/11/seo-lessons-from-watch-moviesnet/. Perhaps they inventoried all of their backlinks and mass emailed, contacted the webmasters on a lot of the sites. The others probably just fixed their broken links once they announced the new domain because of their popularity.
How important are links from a similiar niche site? Would a link from a PR2 movies site be more valuable than say a link from a PR5 random site?
No a PR5 random site would be much more valuable than a PR2 related site. Some people may argue with me but i have a site on page 1 of google for a term thats searched for 9 millions times a month and with very little related links.
According to me if you are doing SEO with right techniques the site should rank well in 2 months, as google PR is updated after every 3 to 4 months, you should not think for that, but the status can be checked on Alexa.. as for PR Alexa and Google page ranking, both are important.
Yeah it is possible ! I involved in many cases in past Read "successful moving of site: Suhaana khan" its a technical process, and lots of depends on the indexing factor. its systematic form of transfer. (hXXp://forums.digitalpoint. com/showthread.php?t=1260620 ) I have an another example a good ranked website (indiafm)com got transfer with same process new name is (bollywoodhungama)com
There is no definitive answer for this because there are just too many variables at work. A PR2 site might actually pass you more "juice" or Page Rank than a PR5 page if for example, the PR 5 page had 1000s of outbound links, and the PR2 page had 5. That's not likely but it could happen. The overall benefit of a PR2 page, however, could very likely exceed that of a PR5 page if the link text used on the PR2 page is better, the PR2 page is more relevent, the PR2 page has far fewer outbound links, etc. Personally, I'd rather have the PR2 link from a relevant page on another site with relevant link text than a PR5 link from a page that is not relevant with a link text of "Click Here" any day... No only does it influence far more factors in how Google ranks my page for a particular keyword, it's more likely to drive me more traffic since it's from a relevant site. For example, if I have a page about Barbie Dolls a link from a PR5 auto dealership site with a link text of "click here" is not going to really help me rank for Barbie Doll terms like a link from a PR2 page about "baby dolls" would with the link text of "Barbie Dolls". Think link from the PR5 will likely pass you more Page Rank, but that is only one of more than 200 factors Google is looking at. And since most pages on the web have 100-500 outbound links, the amount of PR passed is already diluted... The link from the PR2 site doesn't passes less PR, but it influences probably several other ranking factors since the link text is relevant and the page linking too my page is relevant. People frequently post on the forums as if there is a definitive answer for questions like these when 99 times out of 100 the real answer should start with... "It depends...".
I'm planning on doing all the SEO work for my niche site for about 14 days, then I'm calling it quits and am just going to see how it goes. Before I began even a TINY bit of SEO work, I was getting hits from Google from the keywords I would be targetting. I think I'm on the right path.
As everyone has said there is on 301 old site doesn't exist. But is still cached in google a lot of the links. I am sure they were able to get a lot of their old traffic back. But to be able to get 441 back links on google for a brand new site within 14 days is very impressive. And that too getting all the sites that were linking to an old link to link back in 15 days is amazing. But that still doens't clarify how it got backlinks on google and yahoo within 14 days and soo many. I would challenge anyone here to show me backlinks in that amount to show up in google backlinks in14days. Quite frankly my sites have 100s of backlinks but 0 show up in google and my ranking in google is very very good. So that means there are backlinks that are shown and then there are backlinks that aren't shown when you do a 'link:xx.com" query in the search engines.
It's all relative to amount of outbound links on the page holding the link, a pr5 random site with a 200 external link is less valuable than any pr2 site with 5 outbound links
SEO isn't something you do for 2 to 4 to 6 months and then stop, nor should the results plateau in that period and cease to grow. SEO is an on-going practice of first optimizing your site and then focusing on developing content for specific terms. If you do not continue to optimize for those terms, someone else will and your rankings will change. re: watch-movies-links.net That's an impressively short ramp-up time, but as other posters have pointed out they have relationships with their original link partners that could be called upon for the new site.
Thanks for the insightful information. It actually seems my best bet would be to try both with similiar anchor text. At least this way I know I'm covering both bases. By the way, I'm new to this forum but love the topics and information available. It seems this is the best place to stay up to date on everything SEO related. Thanks again!
There was likely a buzz among those who visited the site about the new URL. If you can get people talking, then you can get ranked quite easily. The reason most of the time SEO takes so long is because there is no buzz in reference to a specific URL. So you are self-creating that buzz by doing link building.
It's like Canonical mentioned. They seem to have many solid link partners and / or other web sites they control, and were able to get the links updated in a very short time.
The link building have helped them. They will not have the effect of duplicate content as they might have made the links from the same domain they used to have link for their previous domain, 27995 inbound links is something Google will surely love as most of those links are from domains that are well trusted domains.
