You Still Promoting Your Website On Directories???

Directories were once great source for Link building. Directories enjoyed a great place with Search engine. Of late Google is not considering the links from Directories as Genuine Backlinks.. It seem Google is angry with paid listing at Directories. If you can pay a little amount you can get listed at these directories and you will gain a genuine back link that will push your site ranking over the top is what directories advertise.
With Google heavily discounting Directories are they fading out of the scene?

Do you have a source showing that google is not recognizing directories? I heard this before, yet I continue getting backlinks from directories (not paid)? What defines a site as directory?

I'm not sure if directories is the issue as much as paying for links are. Google doesn't condone paying for links be it a directory or from a regular web site?

Google does not disclose how it considers or discounts a link or a method. We understand it from our experience. Meta tags were every thing for google just sometime back. Now it means nothing to google..
Directories are targeted now. Many of the quality directories are losing their page ranks. They are penalized..

There are people still thinking directory submission genuine. Google still recognizes standard directories that offer one way links
It penalizes paid links and automatic submissions

Talking to some of the big marketers on other forums, directories are in fact a big waste of time anymore.

Here is a direct quote from one of the top SEO guys I know:

I agree, I used to submit to directories, but I never see my Backlinks in Google, so I don't think it is worth while anymore.

And how exactly google knows which ones are automatic submissions?
I agree with you that links from directories are not as valuable as they used to be, but a back link is still a back link and even if you won't rank any big keyword just by submitting to directories you can still get some juice from them.

Yeah, out of a bunch of Backlinks for my site only one or two are from directories, and I know I have submitted that site to at least 50 directories. Most of the mare from Digg, other Social Bookmarking sites, and Forums like DP.

Even though, I get traffic from directories like blogcatalog from time to time. Although that traffic is not that huge as compared to the natural traffic that Search Engines like Google and Yahoo are giving me.
