Using "" (quotes) in your meta title? Good idea?

    Hey DP Members,

After reading so many seo tips and tricks on this forum I see alot of users mentioning that the meta title tag is very important, if not top priority!

Google suggests that users search with "" (quotes) marks to redefine the search with more appropriate results based on the quoted keywords or phrases.

But what if you included "" (quotes) in your meta title?

    For example:

"Web Design New York" | My Business Example

Would this help and tell google that this is the main keyword for this page?

Just occurred to me the other day really, and was interested to know what other DP members think about my theory?

    Thanks!

This would be a waste of time and a bad idea. I think very few searchers actually take advantage of quotes in searches. The search engines would likely ignore the quotes in your title anyway. This would not help you.

If you want Google to know what your main keyword is, just get lots of backlinks with that phrase and similar phrases.

Thanks for the feedback, was just a theory really and whether or not google may assign more weight!

    But thanks for the comments!

No problem. The thing is that when you use quotes in a search, Google does not look for quotes on pages, it just knows to look for the entire phrase together. There is nothing wrong with theories though. Testing theories can sometimes help you discover easier ways to get rankings.

i think people are missing the obvious.. its not that google will ignore the quotes, its that you'll screw up for the formatting.
The quotes are used to tell when the tag sections start and finish, if you include title=""blah blah"", all you've done is started and finished your title with the first two quotes !! ie there'll be nothing actually in it .
the rest will then be just bad code as far as SE are concerned, and dismissed.

metatags are not that important in terms of weight since people used to abuse that before. But for your own use, if you want to optimize metatags, make sure your description metatag is below 200 characters and yes use numbers and letters only for all metatags

Additional suggestion: I would work on your Title tags and H1/H2 tags than your metatags for better SEO

    Hey!
Why are wasting you title space in "" where as google use this as query to find out exact word.
It will not be beneficial for your keyword because you should think that there may be chances to be come result at only your "" keywords not on phrase.

Do other important seo works..........you can get much better results.......
