Seems like Directories are becoming a thing of the past. I still use them but they do not seem as effective as they used to be. Back along they were 50% of my marketing and now probably only 20%. I dunno, maybe I should start hammering them the way I used to. What's your thoughts on directories in your marketing efforts? Regards, G
I agree. Directory just is one of the link building way, and i only submit to high PR dirctory now. Not much help from directory now
I build my own directory..To submit my URL to other directory, I am very particular if the directory does provide SEO to my link or not..
One of the quickest and easiest ways to get links, i continue to submit to them, have infact been submitting quite heavily over the last few days.
you should not use any link building method as your only method to build backlinks building backlinks from directories should be used in conjunction with other forms of linkbuilding I agree with pipes and they are also a great way to get a site indexed fast
I do agree you.. But submitting a site to directories results in getting a permanent back link. I feel good if you work on directories for some time in a day...
I'm still using the directories as a source of permanent backlinks. But you're right, they are not as effective as they used to be.
Directory submissions are not a waste of time, but you have to be selective of directories. One of my new sites got PR4 from directory submissions alone.
@ lifeplayer >> But Most of the PR directory approve the link after 4 - 6 months. I prefer to submit the links in new directory coz at list they approve quickly.
Directory submission might have lost part of its value, but i wouldn't discard it completely. It is still a source of backlinks, which in combination with other techniques can yeild pretty good results.
that true.. and i agree.. but before i submit i will take a look first if they have spamming list or not...
whatever paid or free web directories, select the quality directories otherwise it will only damage your sites.
some of these are waste of time. I submitted to 30 directories (someone's link directory network) after 1 month I checked and there is NO of submitted sites.
20% is a reasonable level. You should look at the overall mix of websites out there, and tailor your efforts accordingly. Directories do not make up half of the web, so they should not make up half of your link building efforts.
Oh man - so much mis-information all in a single thread... I disagree - directories are not a thing of the past. Quality directories continue to provide benefits. The spam filled ones, well they need to be a thing the past. How much or little you use them is your choice and the effectiveness of using them is determined by the ones you choose to utilize. Submit to un-maintained spam filled sites and you will get out of it exactly what you put into it. Little to nothing. Submit to quality and you should continue to see results. Naturally if you no longer utilize directories as much they will not benefit you as much. Kind of self fulfilling there. PR has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of or benefits derived from directories. There are directories which have a higher pr and are totally worthless and there are directories which have lower pr that are highly valued. Which kind of direcory do you think search engines value and give more credibilty to? The pr 6 that gets 20 uv per day from search engines or the pr0 that gets 1k or more uv per day???? And I am not talking about free diretories that get hammered by bot submittions every day, that is not real traffic imo. Evidence - or is this just your opinion? I see this stated frequently, but I would really like to see one example of damage to a site that resulted from some third party linking to it.... I agree there are many links which offer very little or no benefits to a site, but to actually damage another site just by linking to it??? Excluding deceptive linking practices which go clearly against webmaster guidelines - do you have any evidence or examples? Sorry but that one is just rediculous. What were your expectations? Submitting to a link directory network - 30 sites of massive duplicate content and expected results in 30 days? Personally I would be amazed if you ever see one of those links show up. Marki8 - I don't understand what your trying to say there. But if your meaning you check the directory for accepted spam prior to submitting I think that is great!
We need this thread blended into the 500 other threads asking the same question i know its easy to post about something already asked and answered here but a quick search would provide answers for those for and against directories. The daft thing is that i think i take part in nearly all of them, telling yet another person that yes they are useful. why?
I've dedicated myself to promoting my new niche mini website the following way. I have all of the content and pages (10 of them) up, now this is what I do: Each day for exactly 2 weeks: 10 Directory Submissions with MAIN keyword as title At least 5 posts on DP with link to site in signature 2 Article submissions with SECONDARY keywords as title I'm curious to see how this works...
