Has anyone got a "Test" letter mailed from Godaddy?

    Hello,

This is really strange, i have several hundred domains with Godaddy and have used Godaddy for about 6 years.

Today i got a letter from Godaddy (i'm in Australia) saying "We are sending this to your postal address as a test message to ensure the Whois information complies with ICANN regulations. There is no need to respond."

It was only regarding 1 domain, anyone ever got this?

Yes, they come from time to time. ICANN requires that all the registrant details be correct and up to date.

Just make sure you do not click on any of the links in the email as it could be a phishing email. Always copy and paste the URL in the browser. Many times, the displayed URL is different than the destination URL in case its a phishing email.

    Hi,

Thanks for that, but no this was mailed to my house on an official Godaddy letter head. I've had many ICANN required emails which require visiting the URL but never a letter mailed from the US from Godaddy.

It seems really strange, the letter says to do nothing so i don't see the point of them spending 94c to send it or why they would.

Oh dear, you need not worry.

They say that you need not respond means that its just a informative letter. If your details like phone, address, email etc has changed since you registered the domain, just update it or else ignore the letter and do nothing.

I've never gotten anything in the mail from them, only just the usual email once a year asking to make sure that my Whois details are correct.

Personally, I don't see how they can check anything if your details are correct by sending a letter to an address & asking for you not to respond. Are they hoping that someone mails the letter back with "Return to Sender" & they will take it as incorrect Whois info?

Yes same with me, i have held many thousands of domains at Godaddy over the years with only the yearly email.

Exactly, it's very strange. Whoever got the letter would probably just throw it in the trash instead of sending it back to the other side of the world so a letter like this seems pointless.

I have never heard of them sending mail like this.
