New to Co-Op

Question. A lot of the coop links displayed are irrelevent. Can't this penelize rank on Google? Having your anchor on sites that are not at all relevent to yours? Or is this different because the links are dynamic and they are technically not "link exchanges". So it looks as if someone just randomly posted your link on the site.

Can someone shed some light on this please.

It depends on how many links you have already. A site with 500 links where 480 are coop links will probably not do very well. A site with 5000 links with 480 coop links will get a nice boost.

Don't point too much weight to start with and make sure you vary the anchor text and link locations.

 

I see.... Well currently I added my site, and added the coop code. My site is very new, it is only around 2 months old. Most backlinks that I have; have not yet been updated. The site is currently PR0 (was PR4 for a few hours during the Google blue-ball update). My current Coop weight is 79.

How do I not point too much weight? I am currently displaying 5 links in my footer.

Also, "vary your anchor text and location" your not talking about co-op correct? If not, then yes I have a good variation of links around the net with relevent sites.

Well with a weight of 79 you will be fine. Don't point more than 1,000 to your site though for the first few months. You can set a maximum weight in your account (just in case your site gets PR4 and the weight jumps up loads).

My point about the anchor text and link location was that if you set up one advert pointing at your homepage with the anchor text "keyword 1 keyword2" then you won't get the best effect.

You should set up maybe 10 adverts with a variety of anchor text pointing to lots of internal pages on your site as well as the homepage.

 

I see. I only setup one so far. I will definetly add more and point them to different parts of my site. I understand weight is calculated by your PR, inbound links and other factors correct?

Hmmm. I will definetly take it easy with coop. I have a new site and might be more vunerable to penelties.

As for coop, what does the select menu do next to the ad you want to post? It has a scale of 1-15

Questions: do you not value your website? are you looking at earning income from your website?

If the answer is yes to the above, then putting co-op links on your website is highly dangerous, unless you are happy with the possibility of Google placing your website on page 15 for 6-12 months.

It is cheating, plain and simple. Have you not thought about putting the hard work in and generating genuine links, it is not difficult and your website will benefit for it.

Using co-op links is like getting a spray can of paint and spraying your shop name and address on 1000's of walls around your city, you will get away with it for so long, and may even get some sales doing so, but one day your local council will come knocking on your door to penalise you.

Will they or won't they? is it worth it? when there are far easier ways to grow your business.

My advise to you.. build your own links to sites you WANT to be associated with - at least then you can sleep at night, and not have to worry about the 'Google-knock' at your website's door.

Hmm, I understand the risks now. But, there are rival sites running co-op and they are #1 in Google, and have been for months.

 

Its the weight proportion for the advert. 15 is highest.

 

i see, I have it set on 1, and I set coop to only display 3 ads. Im playing it safe being that my site is new.

Now im paranoid that im going to get banned by Google for using Coop.

 

With just 79 of weight, you'll be lucky if Google even sees the link!!! Thousands is when you should start to worry. A few thousand pounds of fat is enough for a new site.

 

A rival to my own website was doing similar positions on Google using ONLY co-op links, then dissapeared to page 15 overnight, then totally vanished.

Do not risk it, they may be number 1 on Google now, but they will be watching the situation closely, and when it happens, and it will, their business will be gone!!

Doesn't seem like it will be any time soon. A few members are reporting their sites disappearing even without co-op.

Took off CO-OP yesterday. I lost sleep after putting it up. Maybe when things settle down I will put it back up, but the chances are slim. I seen many big rival sites that use COOP go down the tubes this past week. Sorry...

Coop advertising. Webmasters share links with each other, basically. Read this if you like.

 

sorry but thats not correct in my experience... I had the co op on for a week, not enough to get ANY links, and was penalized soon after along with everyone else. I now get absolutely zero google traffic unless people search for my domain name with the .com on it. It's pretty much ruined me and i dont know when my rank is going to come back... stay away from co op.

 

I was talking about pointing coop links at your site. If you are hosting coop links on your site then any bad effects will happen as soon as google spiders the site.

Note: I'm not saying that there will be any negative effect....

 

I used Co-Op for a few days then took it down. I have not been penalized, but I am glad that I followed the crowd and took it down. Some of the biggest sites have been de-listed because they used co-op.
