How do you feel about Google AdSense Integration for vBulletin 3.8.0?

Well I recently found out that vBulletin 3.8.0 Stable is allowing a google adsense module basically to help your site out with with ads.

Apprently it is supposed to help increase your traffic and income.

How do you guys feel about it? Would you do it this way or would you rather manually edit your templates yourself with custom adsense codes.

And adsense (with your permission of course) is allowing vBulletin to access your adsense account to obtain information.

I'm not a fan of AdSense. I have used them before and I wasn't happy with the service. However, it is a good service for those vB customers using AdSense.

Yes it would be easier for newbies to use but I think that vBulletin should only be used for people who know how to use it not just a random kid and if you know how to use vBulletin then you'll pretty much know the Template system to it.

Yes it is a great addition I agree.

For people with limited skills I think it works fine.

What I don't like is the access it gives Jelsoft on traffic reports.

Not impressed with it, the way it was implemented and not impressed with vBulletin. So after the tactics used by them, we purchased an IBP license for our latest project and actually are starting to love it.

So after using vBulletin for 6 years now and owning a ton of licenses, we will be migrating all sites to IBP as each vB support period ends.

The description of "how" a vbulletin forum works with adsense may not have been fully detailed.

Starting with 3.8, there are ad locations built into the templates. Instead of having to edit the core template files, all you have to do is insert the ad code into the ad_location files. There are 12 built in ad locations spread across the forum in different locations.

All you have to do is copy the adsense code, and paste it into the ad_location template. You DO NOT have to enter your adsense account information in the control panel.

Those ad_location templates also work with all different types of ads - ebay, amazon, adbrite,,,,,,

I think its about time that ad locations were added as a standard feature. This makes it a lot easier to insert ads to your forum, and without having to edit the core files. For people that do not understand how to edit php files, the built in ad location templates are a lot easier to edit - then having to download the file, edit, upload, check to see how things look - and hope you didnt not mess anything up.

Since my forum deals with firearms, weapons, knives and other stuff, I can not use adsense. So I use the ad_location templates to display Amazon and sometimes Ebay banners.

Those ad_location templates have been around since I think 3.7 or late 3.6
But in 3.8 is what I'm talking about its a new feature introduced :)

Thank you - I thought the ad_location templates had been introduced with 3.8.

As I detailed above, because of the nature of my forum I can not use adsense. Google does not want their ads on sites that promote the sale of firearms, ammunition, pepper spray, knives or any other kind of weapon.

There are too many factors involved, and too many security issues for me to just leave that kind of information laying around.

I feel that my adsense information is more secure if I just use the code supplied by google. And then insert that information into an ad template.

Out of the 3 vbulletin forums that I run, none of the are using the built in adsense feature.
