2006 Italy vs. France Final

Alright the final is coming up. I'm a huge Azzurri fan (did I mention I'm Italian) and I think they actually can go all the way.

So, who do you think will win the World Cup, and why?

For all those "we hate soccer posters", I respect your opinion, but would appreciate if only soccer lovers would post here.

I think Italy will win, but i also think France may have a better team...

 

Really? I don't know. Italy has arguably the best goalie, an amazing defence (though they will miss Nesta) and out of the 11 goals scored 10 were from different players.

I think Italy is deep.

France has great strikers, but the goaltending in the Portugal match was atrocious. They were lucky that Portugal couldn't finish.

I think that the weakest link in the french is the goal keeper.
Apart that they have two of the best center defender, 2 of the best recovery midfielders 2 of the best midfielders and a great striker.

Italy have some great players too, but has a team i don't think they are so "balanced".

 

France is going good, if they continue their form, they mght snatch the cup.

Italy is a great team as well, its gonna be a great match.

 

Tough match indeed. France playing slightly more aggressive football IMHO, but I believe that Italy will win the cup!

bad draw on the ref though - Horacio Elizondo, who sent off Wayne Rooney against Portugal - then again he might stop all the French dives

Anyone know when was the last time Italy won the world cup? Because I know France won it in 1998 so they sure have the experiance of being in the finals and that may be a big factor in this match

Donnt you guys think there were very less goals in this tournment....even the low grade teams perormed well...

 

I think france win 2-1 if zidane play with god performance

 

Italy have won it 3 times, - '34, '38 & 1982 (with arguably the best team they've ever played)

Don't be fooled into thinking that france may have an upper hand just because they won it in 98, they didnt even qualify from the group stage in 2002

 

I think France are the more aggressive of the two sides and definitely have the ability while Italy too have the ability to win *if* they play as well as they can do. Italy's talent may be enough to win the day against France's more aggressive and dominating style of play.

So, it comes down to the referee. Will he fall into the trap of rewarding the play-actors and therefore continually disrupting play, or will he let the match flow, ignoring the fake-fouls?

Should be a good match.
