I was reading another thread about Webmasters defining a site as a link farm. What makes SB sites relevant and not a link farm? Everyone just dumps their links there, as a matter a fact - We dump them everywhere - I submit my articles and pages to 100 SB's. ALL the same link, same categories, etc. I dont see how this is legit and why they are not penalized as a link farm would be. Is it because Link Farms or "pages of links" are just unorganized and multiple links? Im just not getting this. Please discuss.
The main purpose of Social bookmarking is to keep favorite websites private or share websites, latest news and articles with others all over... However, link farms(having 1000 of non relevant links) purpose is to manipulate the index of search engines...
No one that truly understands SEO is using SB sites to share their FAVORITE garbage. Again, why are SB sites not considered Link Farms? There are 1000's of non relevant links in Digg and other SB sites. Please define non-relevant links. If it points to anything, I would say its relevant. Are you saying because its not categorized?
SB sites have a LOT of junk but their front page/category pages and upcoming pages matter most. DP has a LOT of links to irrelevant sites, does that make it a link farm? IF there is a good moderation / editing process in place, the site shouldn't be called link farms. Popular SB sites continuously delete accounts, stories and allow users to 'bury' stories. SB software/script can be used to 'make' a link farm but it won't matter in google anyway.
novashun, I agree that they seem artificial & spammy & wonder why SEs value them. Maybe the difference is, if you write a unique paragraph to describe the bookmark, and pick some unusual but relevant tags, that then there is more value given to the link on the SB site. Who knows? G won't tell us ....
It's all about voting, no one is going to vote for rubbish pages that have no worth. Generally speaking due to the voting system only good, interesting content will get to the front pages and be seen.
