100,000 Reasons to avoid Blogger?

Discussion in 'WordPress' started by driven, Jul 6, 2006.

I'm a Wordpress fan myself and I often shudder when I see someone using Blogger. I believe there are some valid reasons to use Blogger, especially if you are a newbie. And I often see questions and discussions as to which blog platform, people should use when getting started.

    I'd like this to be the go-to thread as to why people should avoid Blogger as their platform of choice. A few of my reasons are;

    1. Lacks Tracback Technology
    2. It's very 'Me Too'
    3. not open source

    What else are we missing?

I think that's the biggest problem with .Blogspot blogs.

As far as Blogger, unless you do a lot of work with the template, it looks much less professional than Wordpress.

    Along with this,
    In Website creation type,

If you use a .Blogspot domain. If you use Blogger on your own server, this isn't an issue.

With free, you get what you pay for. And in this case, it ain't much. As mentioned previously, you can set it up on your own server. But if you are going throught that hassle [it can be a hassle for some], then you may as well spend the time with something like wordpress.

Heck, at this point, if you want a webhosted version, just go Wordpress.com instead of Wordpress.org . .Com is still better than the hosted version of blogspot.

It's not as individual-based as a wordpress blog, but not nearly as community-based as a livejournal blog. No way to automatically import "friends" like you can with LJ, and the "blogroll" isn't nearly as good as Wordpress. It's halfway between both, but not serious competition to either.

Blogspot's header is actively encouraging users to leave your blog on to the next one (note, not based on the same category, just the next random blog in the list.)

As you said, I don't think Blogger is all bad. I like having a couple .Blogspot blogs because they are crawled and indexed by Google quite often, which makes them valuable for providing backlinks to my other blogs.

Personally, I think the "being indexed quickly by Google" factor is a bit overrated. Any good decent web professional with any working knowledge of SEO can get his website indexed within 48 hours or so.

I'm really thinking about setting up two blogs with the same content. I'll have one on blogspot and the other on something like wordpress and see which gets indexed quicker and moves up in ranking quicker as well. That way, I can offer some sort of evidence to all of the hype of blogspot getting indexed quicker.

I would LOVE to see those results. Seriously. Hell, it'd be an article worth digging for sure.

For sure :) Actually, the only thing I'm concerned about is if both blogs have the same exact content verbatim, then it may adversely affect the SERPS??? I dunno so I'm asking you guys. if that is true, I would probably have to change the wording a bit from each blog to avoid any so called spamming that the SEs might pick up.

I would do that just to avoid any penalties and preserve the integrity of your "experiment." As long as the SEs don't pick up any duplicate content, you should be fine ;)

Also, if you do ever conduct this experiment, make sure to provide link(s) where we can see your results ;)

This is not true. (Not anymore with Blogger Beta)

I believe Google will spend some bucks left (After spend U$1,65 Billion with YouTube) with Blogger.

There is some new features: As The categories (Labels)

I believe it will be better than was before, let's wait and see.

Hard to find a real good template like WordPress.
Also, not possible to have pages and categories.
