My friends forum database has just been stolen and used on another website. The forum database which was stolen was not copyrighted. What can he do other than contacting the host to remove the site ?
What country is he & the offenders from? In most, that database would've been copyrighted automatically as it was created
Depends on what country he is in and what country the person is in. He can do what he pleases up to and including filing a civil lawsuit. Now, that won't matter much if the content and/or person is located in a different country, especially one that has some of the more lax copyright laws.
Yes i think you cant do anything for this too. I think there must be a .htaccess setting to not to be able to stolen db.
Your friends' host should be the one responsible for that or really the settings of the forum as aTk said, the .htaccess.
lolz, who told u to keep it so OPEN , always make sure tht these type of things r safe , anyways just move on , he cant do much frm ur DB.
If they both belong to the same jurisdiction, check out your local laws. Automatic copyrighting of databases at the time of creation is not usually a feature of jurisdictions, but it never hurts to check out what your copyright law says. In any case, there might be basis for a moral rights action, via a civil proceedings.
So, If india, then no way. you site is stolen.. But you may start your work going and atleast consult some guy developer and get your site secured..
