I'm becoming more frustrated by the day!
i'm sorry, but i'm going to break houserules here as i'm close to breaking point!
my site is Pixaprize.com.. it is a pixel advertising, competition-based, tactical, game. With real prizes for visitors - prizes include xbox's, psp's and pretty much whatever i choose to giveaway or whatever my advertisers choose to giveaway.

over 400 squares have been used by CJ, TradeDoubler, and Buy.at affiliations! - all have viewed and approved the site.

pretty much everybody i have spoken with says it should do well, but i have failed to make many sales. Visitors are returning on a daily basis to play the game and i've received many mails from good people congratulating me on my success! if only they knew!

Pixaprize.com sells/rents 10x10 squares for £100 - is this too high? should i drop the price?
sponsor-a-prize costs any advertiser £50 per prize (as well as the cost of the prize)...... i think i should lower the cost of the squares to a nominal £10, £20 or £50 and concentrate efforts on selling the sponsor-a-prize scheme....i don't know! what do you think? will it work at all?:(

Personally, I think it is because the pixel based advertising was a gimmick that worked real well for the original creator. That train has left the station and I don’t think it is coming back. Also, the original million dollar page had a lot of media coverage and was promoted very well.

    Just my 2 cents.

As soon as you mention the word 'pixel' it's all over... no need to finish the sentence. You could have the most amazing site in the world, but start your sentence with 'it is a pixel advertising ...' click - brains shut off. Not your fault, it's the fault of all the copycats that made almost exact duplicates and marketed them as if they were unique.

I do still think it's possible for your site to be successful (I'm still advertising on pixel sites occasionally) but you'll really need to concentrate on marketing to the right people - don't expect success, no matter how good the site really is.

    Additional notes :

    * if you're not making money from the AdBrite ads at the top, get rid of them - seeing the generic loan/mortgage ads looks cheap

    * the original milliondollarhomepage scrapped their original click-tracking and changed to direct links - I think a lot of advertisers prefer it due to any possible PR benefits. I guess removing the click-tracking may stop your game concept, but it's just another reason why potential advertisers may not be so interested.

    * I didn't really look at your site much, but I did see the message 'enable popups to play' - I think a lot of people have multiple levels of popup protection (browser, norton security, toolbars, etc) and a lot of people wouldn't even know how to turn it off even if they wanted to (and a lot of people wouldn't want to anyway)

Anyway that's just my opinion based on a quick look.

    Good Luck!

(ps. no I'm not interested in advertising ;) )

the price is definitely too high...you are charging same price as the father of them all ,,,the original milliondollarhomepage.com
The last pixel ad site I saw charged $25 for 10x10.

    :D

i think i know what i'm gonna do, for the time being!
yesterday, when i handed the most recent prize of an XBox 360 to the winner, Mr Matthew Trainor, he said that he loves the game (as he would; he did win an XBox after all), he's told all his mates, workcolleagues and relatives about it.
I've had interest from the regional newspaper here in the northwest of England so I'm inviting Matt and a couple of other prizewinners to one of my advertisers shops for a photoshoot, interview and prizegiving session - this should be healthy for publicity.... and the advertiser will love the idea. The advertiser "uzma Boutique" has already sponsored-a-prize and i will ask them to present it to the winner.
A half page ad going out to 300,000 avid readers to prove that prizes are genuine..... as well as advertisers (of course!) to learn of Pixaprize.com.
I might lower prices for the squares to a nominal £10 per square for a limited time... or even £1.00! until i start to receive a healthy number of hits... then i can plug the sponsor-a-prize scheme easier.
The XBox that Matt won was hidden behind the Novatech Ad, which received nearly 1500 hits just in the final week prior to the prize end date..... so it does get people clicking on the ads..... somehow, i just need people to trust my pixel page and visit........ and play the game.

This is an old system. Now in the web 2.0 there are new things that will interest more potential advertisers
